LOL!

Don't say that to an engineer!

Everything is a 'perfect world' on paper to them!

I always kid our engineers at work about this...
(Of course...AFTER I fix their drawings to work in the REAL world)...

:D

H.

Re: Any roofers in the house?

Ralph, believe me, "back in the day" as they say, my dad was THE MAN for painting ... Haddonfield NJ is a historical town loaded with Victorian architecture - think of it as Cape May without the Canadians (or the ocean, eh?) Big Big houses, big money, tight fisted basstards that had held on to money for a LOOOONGGG time ... and they begged dad to come paint for them, just come, fill out the check, he was THAT good

most of his repeat work was in color changes ... the jobs lasted so long people got SICK of the color!!!

He was the one that sweated the details ... like tarring nails, and spotting TINY holidays THREE STORIES UP, how the hell he did that I dont know, how can ya see a hairs width that far up? he did, and would go up himself to fix it ... and let me tell ya, I dont know how old you are Ralph, but if you ever tried horsing a WOODEN 44 foot ladder, you know the sort of work involved to fix that miniscule skip

but sadly, the days of workers like Dad are gone, much like mastodons sinking in the tarpits, they are watching the spray boys come along and blow a house out in a day, monochrome, hit n git

and not for nothin, but I stopped at a roofing job I recognized from way way wayyyy back, distinctive widows walk, cant miss it ...right after doing it, dad had his heart attack, 1967 ....

looks like slow goin

yeah, some crazy bastarrd put the shingles in with four nails, gooped em up ... pain in the azz!!!

any leaks? any blown off?

nah, just puttin slate gray ones up, that roof is fine

its 36 years old

the look on his face was priceless!

:D

Re: Any roofers in the house?

i guess everyone noticed by now, i'm putting comments everywhere, then gone again... i'm pretty busy lately.

but i had to mention here, very poignant ray. i like that 1967 story. i guess it touched me cauz i noticed my old slippers when coming to the 'puter - i got them from my (natural) father's house, after he passed away, in 1997. :) (i still have clothing/apparel from both he & my wife's dad- we wore the same size shoes/shirts/coats)

but me & pop did several roof jobs together, only in the family. he is from a construction/woodworking family. we pulled those plastic strips & used 4 nails. i do differ from others i guess, cause i opted to have our house plans changed from ridge vent to turbines- i just don't trust anything on the ridge. but the logic of heat flow makes better sense. i guess my decision was based on seeing how people on the roof tend to step right on the ridge, AND the houses with a few yrs on them tend to have gaps pulled loose on the ridge vents. i guess its due to the hard angle - vs having the turbines on a flat(altho sloped) surface... :)

Re: Any roofers in the house?

my dad is still kickin ebb ... its just that the heart attack changed him, I remember him carrying 4 fives of roof tar, he was younger than I am now at the time ... afterwards, he was afraid to pick up anything heavier than a ladder ... he bought an aluminum scaffold cause the old wooden stinson was too heavy, whereas before he would throw that stinson ON THE ROOF OF THE TRUCK BY HIMSELF

now, hes just so old ... my mom is old, gray hair, wrinkled, they dont look anything like they used too

of course, all thier babies are now decidedly middle age looking, Im sure it doesnt do them a world of good either

LOL, I know age, much like sh!t, happens ...

ironic ... if we are "lucky" we get to be old and wrinkled, but I do remember my grandfather saying, right before he died of a heart attack, AARRRGHHHH ... lol, kidding, he said he feels just the same as he did when he was 18, just knows he cant do as much ... of course, he was a little runt of a guy, strong as hell tho, 5-6 and his hands were bigger than mine, I always said he was a giant trapped in a dwarfs body, but never to his face, lol, at 68 he died after a night of drinking dancing and chasing women ... hope he caught one of em moments before he went, lol, thats how I want to go!

heres to gettting old and wrinkled!!! Cheers!
