Anyone "know" this boat?

Hello all...Am looking at purchasing "my" first boat after x-mas (sometime before spring prices start to take a hike) and of course have already started the drooling process lol. Not new to boating (grew up on the lake and family had a boat for years), so not a "complete novice", but not a "professional/know everything about boats" either. I found a couple boats that I'm putting on my "watch list" until the time is right, but was wondering if anyone here lives around/knows/etc a boat that is on the top of the list?? If not, maybe some pointers/heads-up/advice from some of the "seniors" on the site. Gonna put a link up for the ad and details.

so for your first boat you want a rocket.at wot that thing will guzzle gas at about 50 gallons per hour.sleek looking boat but what I don't like and is a deal killer for me is where do I put the down-riggers?

Looks and sounds like a nice boat, but seems way over priced to me. Regardless of the newer parts, it is still a 16 year old boat.

Indeed. The price is right on given the upgrades. The marinas love to see him stop by for fuel I'll bet.

Pretty cool go fast boat, 70 MPH will provide tons of pucker facor. Perhaps an effective She Boat. If that's what you want in a craft, then price may actually be fair if even half the seller's representations are accurate.

That said, it certainly doesn't look very versatile for water sports, bow riding capacity, fishing, or first-time owners, but that's just me.

yeah, its "more" than what I need, but lets face it....who truly buys what they really need!?!? lol...have always been a performance nut...cars, trucks, toys, etc. I'm not looking at running 70 every time I'm on it. Like to know I can if I want/choose to though. Like the cuddy option for storage and getting the kiddos out of the sun for sleep and rest.

For the..."for your first boat??...Really?"...yes it's my first boat that I'm owning, but not a novice to boating...have grown up around/with boats most of my life. Just the first time I'm able to purchase one and call it mine.

Just didn't know if boats were like cars in the sense of new motors, superchargers, etc? I had a mustang that I was gonna supercharge, but once I researched into it I realized the vehicle and changes I wanted to make weren't gonna be $$$ wise.

Thought the price was on the higher end for make/model, but also didn't know if boat prices were like car prices...can put a LOAD into them but doesn't equate to a premium selling price.

Thanks for all that put in some thought and input. Not making any moves on anything for several months. Just doing the research and groundwork now to make a better decision later on. And yes, am planning on spending the couple hundred bucks for a professional "once over" if that option is available at the time also.

I don't think that boat will be around come Christmas, the motor and outdrive are worth what he is asking for the entire boat, if you like it I would jump on it now.

I would also get life jackets and a new Life Insurance Policy....My GAWD....

Scratch the life vests he is including them..

lol...yeah I know right...I don't have any illusions, but hopes. It has been on that listing since June; hell, it might already be sold and just hasn't updated the ad (seen that with vehicles before way too often).

Am looking more for:
-"its a crownline (which I already know are good boats), but isn't worth quite that much in wisconsin"
-"i know that boat, that guy dogs the sh** out of it every time he starts it and put the supercharger on with super glue!! STAY AWAY!!"
-"i know that boat, guy spent a ton on it, very reliable, runs it but doesn't abuse it (big difference in the two), right price maybe a little high, but well worth that or whatever you get it at"

I know I'm gonna get the, its not practical or will use too much gas etc, etc...it's the internet, I can handle it. Just trying to increase my knowledge a little. Been visiting the sight quite a bit over the last couple of months and have learned a lot, but I'm sure there is still plenty to learn!

I agree, the motor work and outdrive are about 75% of the asking price. its a go-fast hot-rod sleeper boat.

if you want it, buy it.

Louisville is only about 11 hours (including lunch and chicago traffic). thats there and back with a seatrial in a day.

I bought my searay in St Louis in 2008 because it was 75% of the price locally. do not be afraid to drive to look at a boat.

AWESOME find moose!! Thanks, at least now I might be able to track some posts and find a little better history on the boat. Not looking for a "race boat", but thought if the price/quality/etc were right and the timing worked; it would be a fun sleeper to cruise and play in.

Scott - yeah, didn't think the drive was bad (~7+hrs on google). Drove from VA to Indianapolis pretty regular while me and my wife were dating (during pharmacy school). Noticed WI in your info, how are the prices up that way? Seems like that is the biggest factor on this forum that people bring up in the "whats this worth" threads. Boat doesn't seem way over-priced, but lets face it...everyone wants the best "deal" on anything they buy anymore and never wants to be the one to hear "you paid how much for that again!?!?!" lol

Was hoping that maybe someone knew of the boat and had some inside info...lol...haven't had that person come along yet, but moose has put me on the right path (thanks again moose!!)

Boats aren't like vehicles in the regard that you have a definite book value. A boat's value is whatever someone will buy it for, and varies substantially depending on location and time of year. I agree with the others, at least on the surface, that boat is a fairly good deal for what it is. Engine/drive is the majority of that value.

As far as the boat itself, are you 100% sure that is what you want? That isn't much of a sleeper cuddy, its more of an enclosed place for life jacket storage. Yeah, kids can fit down there, but it is also going to be hot! And as far as the boat itself, 2 kids + 2 adults is going to be about the most you can comfortably put in and still move around. So do you want to take another couple out ever? Going to be very friendly quarters, which gets old.

And gas... Its an understatement how much gas this boat will use! For normal cruising, 10 gallons per hour might be accurate. Any watersports is going to up that, especially tubing. And you have seen that insurance commercial with the guy made of money out boating? They used this boat for it! A couple hundred in gas per weekend wouldn't be unheard of, depending on usage.

smokingcrater - have been thinking about all that kinda stuff. Have a family member with a 232 Caravelle Interceptor cuddy that he seems pretty content with. He has a young one and seems pretty happy with his cuddy/space. Although, I'm not sure how comparable the two are, I wouldn't think there would be that much more room on his caravelle or that much less room on the crownline. Dunno...maybe someone with experience or knowledge of the two boats might chime in??

On a side note though...just went through roughly 2yrs of this guys posts on offshoreonly (thanks moose!) and seems like it got ran hard, but don't think it has been abused. Guy seems to be pretty knowledgable in performance and maintenance. I def feel more comfortable about the history on the boat now and reason for selling. As of july '12 he hadn't had any major issues, small things here and there, but the entire time was talking and looking for a 27-30' power "go-fast' boat that will run high 70s/80s and handle chop/etc better than the crownline. Guy def seems to be a performance guy and likes going fast and the crownline wasn't fitting the bill.

My experience is the cuddy is just a place to store things. During the day it's way too hot to be used as shelter. Everyone wants a bowrider now.
