There are a lot of cultural norms that I object to and don't follow, Pointer.

I don't think of racism as a cultural norm but a flaw in judgement that afflicts all human cultures.

Quote by jb:No, cpj. I am not in favor of illegal immigration. It is pretty far fetched to suggest it.

Sorry to suggest you did. I was just ASSuming your thoughts because of this quote:"It is grossly unfair to imply that all Hispanic immigrants are that way, legal or not."

The legal or not thing is what threw me.My bad, I know what happens when you ASSume. ;)

JB,

But objecting to a social norm or idiosyncracy unique to a specific racial segment, does that constitute racism? Example: The Machismo culture of the latino community.

I agree that the stereotype is unique to the culture, Pointer, but it bears all of the error of any other stereotype.

But who really are we to hold accountable? Illegals are the new slave class. Since they are illegal they can work for less than the minimum wage, work in unsafe conditions etc etc and can not complain. The bussiness that hire them also control the legisltaion that enables them. Thats why we have these goofy "catch and release" policies where illegals are aprehended given a "notice to appear" and released. The problem realy isn't the illegals themselves, they are just doing what they can to survive and they know we will more than likely enable them in some fashion.
The problem is poor to no enforcement, a disincentive to follow the imigration laws, why spend 2 years becoming a legal resident or citizen when you can sneak across and disappear or be granted amnesty?
Blaming people from a poor corupt nation that doesnt want them anyway for doing desperate things to survive is unfair, but enabling it to continue without prosecuting employers deporting illegals and denying the privleges of citizenship to non citizens is also unfair and a slap in the face to those who have or are imigrating legaly.
