The show has added a couple of new boats, wonder if they are trying to weed out some that they have had issues with. Think I remember reading the Northwestern, and Time Bandit had some beef with the network. Although Sig, and Jonathan will be tough to replace.

The new greenhorn on the new boat only lasting 2-hours was hilarious!! :D

The Cornelia Marie having issues with the new captain will be interesting....

Looks like it will be a good season. I admit it, Im hooked..

I've watched less and less over the past couple years. I feel bad for Phil's kids on the Cornelia Marie but they've had issues even before he died and they're only getting worse. I was surprised at how little the Northwestern was shown last night.

Has anyone but me noticed the decline in the oceans resources in the last 50 yrs.?

I'll bet it's the recreational fisherman eh!?

I wonder if dead loss counts against their quota? The Wizard had what seemed to be 2-3K pounds on their offload. What a waste, though I'm sure my wife's cat will enjoy eating lobster meal in his oceanfish flavor food.

Yes, the dead loss counts, I have a sister in law, that actually worked in the crabbing fleet for a couple of years and currently have a really good friend that is in charge of the air conditioning and refrigerator units on Kodiak island, yes, they loose a lot of money when they have dead loss, and the captain made a bad choice..

It's really starting to bum me out. Makes it hard to watch shows like 'catch and swords.

I feel bad for the guy trying to work with the harris kids, he laid it out up front and they haven't held up on their end of the deal to let him run the boat period. But who knows how much of that is in the editing.

Love that show ! Whale Wars borders on humorous sometimes, clown city. River Monsters makes me wanna wear a Kevlar suit in the river. I am 10 min from the Mississippi, Minnesota and St Croix rivers. I dont let ANYTHING just dangle in the water. Nope..............

Hi Pauly! I like watching DC. It is nice to see different boats/crews out there. I don't know how those guys do it. There isn't anything about it that looks appealing, at least to me, besides the $. But what they go thru to get it, they can keep that too. Maybe if a guy grew up in that atmosphere it would be diifferent. Not too sure the Cornelia Marie will be around much longer. Sounds like the funds have depleted fast. Hinting at maybe a new captain. That is, if they can afford to stay out. I don't get into Swords. Just seems wrong for some reason....

those guys work their *** off for like 48 straight and make it look easy, it's pretty amazing.

the long lining doesn't bother me as much as nets.

I hear ya. The trawlers bother me as well. I guess you may have heard about the striper incident off of Oregon Inlet, NC?

Even tho the young Harris's own the boat the captain is in charge. The younger one should be thrown off the boat and the series, he is on drugs and does not belong there and what money he gets from the show helps pay for his habit. And he is the one causing controversy. When you have one bad apple it sours the barrel. Six days of bad luck and they are complaining.

The Wizard was having bad luck catching too.

Not too many recreational fishermen out 500 miles in the Bering Sea!

The decline in the resource is a pretty universal problem. It's always a struggle for the people that set the quotas to make sure there is enough available for the guys to make a living, but not so much to deplete the resource without a whole bunch of them volunteering to stop fishing. And if you ulimately pay a bunch of them to stop fishing, who pays for that?

Commercial fishermen are some of the greediest of the greedy!

They'll take and take until there isn't anything left to take!:( ... and then sit around and whine and cry and blame it on everything and everyone else but themselves.

I'd really like to see all the nets of the world banned and give those boys all a rod and reel and see how much damage they can do then

The decline is universal, and the quotas aint a workin'!!!

They shouldn't be paid to quit fishing, they should go out and get another job.

It won't be long before there isn't enough fish to catch to pay for their fuel to go out, or if they raise their prices most people won't be able to buy the fish.

Then what are they going to do?... they're going to sit around and whine and cry.

So now exactly who is the one sitting around whining and crying?

LOL, we don't watch deadliest catch but we do watch River Monsters and I tell you what, I look at Rivers and large lakes with a different eye now...

Freaks me out they catch Bull Sharks as far north as St Louis, MO.

Yeah, I know... it's me. But it isn't because of something I've done to myself out of greed!

People that haven't ever lived around the ocean don't realize what's going on, I've the decline with my own eyes.

... and I guess it doesn't matter to some people if all the fish in the ocean are caught and sold, I just think it would be a good thing to have some for our future generations.

No need to watch. Already seen too many of these shows and they are all the same.

Re: Anyone watching the new season: Deadliest Catch

Really

That is a broad statement. I have a Federal commercial rod & reel fishing license, There are daily allowable quoter's of poundage per day. I am allowed 75 lbs. of cod over 22 inches long per day. That could be two bull fish or a dozen fish depending on size. Also I can catch as much haddock until the quoter is caught.

Recreational fishermen can go out every day and keep ten cod over 24 inches long per person per day. If three recreational fishermen go out on a weekend in the same boat that is thirty cod. If on a party boat with forty people and most catch their limit of cod that is a lot of fish.

Who is the greedy one? :)

There is discard in both fisheries, any under size fish needs to be thrown back. Most cod when thrown back will die, you bring them up from a deep depth and the bellies hang out of their mouth, they will not live. The recreational fisherman throws the under size fish oerboard sees it swim down and thinks that fish will live.

Todays commercial fishery in the United States is ruled by sustainable allowable quoter's once the quoter is met the fishery is closed.

It is a shame of the mortality kill rate on the striper. You have the craber in the south and the lobstermen in the north that want to discimate the striper population. They blame the striper for the decline in their fishery, not the thousand traps that each boat puts in the water.
