The 90hp crossflow makes its peak horsepower at about 4700 - 4800 rpm. At 5500 it will be making less than 90hp and the power drops off very rapidly above that. It simply is not ported to breath deeply at higher rpms. If you want a 99 crossflow to make peak power at higher rpms, you need the porting of the 110/112/115/135/140 block and carbs. To make the most stock power, the exhaust needs modification and different heads. After that it is specialty shop work and the engine can spin much faster, but it will be WORK to drive it and will have no low speed power and be suitable for racing hulls only
