hi everyone

so this is my first boat i bought its a 1991 regal velocity 23' with a 454 merc and bravo 1. i had the boat for a couple of months and its been a nightmare from the start.. the wiring was a little screwed up, but thats not the real problem. the stringers and transom are gone and half of the floor is also gone. it started when i found a small soft spot under the seat at the storage compartment so i started to cut it out well needless to say i cut all the way to the transom. and the wood is rotten. i just don't know what to do next. i tried to buy a boat for my wife and i ,but i got screwed big time. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know the feeling....I am no pro, just starting out myself. I have read many threads in here lots of good advice. The pro's will be hitting you up soon enough I'm sure.

In the meantime, here is a link that I think may help for starters.

How to fiberglass a deck

I wish you luck with your project.

Ayuh,.... Basically, you've got 2 choices....

#1, yank the motor, drive, 'n transom assembly, 'n rebuild All of the wood, 'n reinstall the driveline,....
Or,...
Junk it out, 'n sell off the left over parts...

Well you either need to cut your losses and sell it or post some pics so we can help you through the repairs. If you decide to fix it be prepared for a very big and very messy but not impossible project.

im going to pull the outdrive tomorrow then pull the motor when i get a chance. i'm sure it's fixable and with all the pros on here i should be able to do this. i never done anything like this before so i'm a little scared. when i saw the wet wood on the transom i got the sick feeling.

All in all, to repair it isn't horrible. Get ready for some scraped knuckles, some bleeding and some cussing!! The sense of satisfaction if you rebuild it will be incalculable!!

You'll be able to build it the way you want it and know it was done right and then have a beautiful boat for you and your wife!!

Welcome to the dry dock if you choose to hang around, oh and some pics would be awesome, we love pics!!

i never done anything like this before so i'm a little scared. .

dont be.......you can do it.

any thoughts on using seacast for the stringers

the seacst for the stringers will be worth more than the motor and b1 drive......lots of options here,.....but being a regal......i think its glass stringers any how....so i doubt that they will need to be done.

we are standing by.....

cheers

Re: bad floor/stringers/transom please help

I may be wrong but didn't Regal have some major issues in the late 80's and early 90's with their hull designs? Seems like I remember something about recalls due to hull delaminations and structural defects. Like I said I might be wrong.

Re: bad floor/stringers/transom please help

if they are hollow fiberglass.......the fiberglass is the stringer...so no replacement nessary..but we will need to see pics to be sure.

woodie.....not sure bud....possibly....the last one i worked on was an 05. but the hull was chopped then hand laminated with otrho resin.
the laminations were done in 3 stages for a mechanical bond.....so de lam under stress was a given.

The easiest way to post pics: click on the link on the bottom of woods post. Post number 14 in this thread. Make sure to read all the way through. Don't just read half way and think you got it. Most do, me as well and fail.

As far as the rebuild. It's not bad at all. Just alot of messy manual labor. Not too much for you though.
