Re: Bait and switch scam?

Sometimes stores go too far to try to get you in to shop. My mother still complains about something that happened to her probably twenty-five years ago. A local jewelry store advertised a free ring for every customer who came in on a particular day. My mother made a special trip to the store, went to the counter and asked for her free ring. The girl behind the register pulled out a little bell and rang it, gave a silly grin, and said "there's your free ring." I think my mother would have been less angry if it had been a big burly guy saying "I got yer free ring right here!" Not only has she never set foot in that store since, but she has badmouthed it to everyone she knows.

My uncle went on a trip to florida once and stopped at a road side juice stand that had a big sign saying "ALL YOU CAN DRINK ORANGE JUICE 25 CENTS" He stopped and paid the 25 cents and after drinking down a large glass he asked for more and was told there was no more because ONE glass was all he could drink for 25 cents....It was funny to hear my dad tell the story.

I have found that when you call the store, most of the time the person in the store makes it so much easier for them to tell the person that "Sorry we don't stock that item", "Sorry we just sold out", and "Sorry sir, I checked the other stores and they don't have them either". Then I personally would go to the store and find it on the shelf after the clerk had told me that they don't have it. Some employees will go the extra distance to help while others will make an excuse to get out of work. At least that is my experience of using the phone for checking stock and prices. On sale items the best thing to do is go in person to find out for yourself........SS
