1974 115HP Johnson O/B. I'm attempting to convert to a dual battery system. Does anybody known the wire color code for the charging circuit coming from the alternator and through the wiring harness into the boat?
Thanks

Re: Battery Isolator/Alternator Wire

hello
are you just adding 2 batteries and a 4 position switch or are you trying to isolate the house and starting battery and charge both when running? you will find the latter setup does not work well with your set up due to low system output, especially at low to moderate speeds. if you have a switch with the field dissconnect dont sweat it its not used on your application.
good luck and keep posting

Re: Battery Isolator/Alternator Wire

Rodbolt, I'm attempting to install the batteries just as you said...the main battery strickly for engine start, the other battery for the trolling motor and other on board electronics, with both batteries separated by the isolator. I'm a little confused as to why you don't think this setup won't work too well with despite the low alternator output. The isolator will keep the batteries separate allowing each battery to independently charge when needed without draining power from the other battery. The main bettery (used for starting only) shouldn't need much charging anyway, allowing the secondary battery to accept most of the charge from the alternator. The "trickle charge" needed for both batteries might be another story, I don't know. At least I have my fingers crossed that this will work....!

RB, thanks for you help. I finished the installation today. It was comforting to see that one of the diagrams in your link was exactly how I wired everything. Now all I have to do it wait for my first engine run and hope everything still works fine!!! Thanks again.
