Re: Bayliner Fuel Tank Project

I haven't read back through the thread much, but if you're talking about melting clips onto a poly tank, don't.

Poly tanks need to expand between 5-10 percent when they're filled, so any super tight mounting method will cause either the mounts or the tank to crack. That also goes for mounting anything else attached to the tank.

If your tank doesn't have attachment points for wires, you won't easily be able to add them. Ideally you don't want the wires firmly attached to anything anyway, as it might cause chafing and shorts.

I'd recommend wrapping the wires in the tank compartment with a spiral sleeve or mesh wrap then loosely tying them to something with a zip tie so there are only a few inches of play in any direction. Or you could leave them loose.

How about those wire zip-tie clips with the peel off sticker... You could add better adhesive.. Maybe rough up the surface a tad? Again great work Mark! What type of bilge pump you runnin? That's the wiring from Greg correct?

Yes, that is Greg's wire. Glad I ordered from him! It really is top quality stuff. I thought stripping the wires in Bilge cable jacket would be hard because the jacket is molded around the wire. But it wasn't, when the jacket was slit with the razor knife, it split fully open with just a little prying.

The pump is the Attwood Sahara S750 Automatic (750gph). Its probably overkill on my boat (depending on what authority you reference), but better safe than sorry.

Eric, you read my mind on the tank. Especially after having such a hard time finding it, melting something into the tank is not very likely

The spiral sleeve sounds good too. Could combine that with the self stick tabs bear_69cuda mentioned.

I used the male/female connectors because I thought it would make pump replacement easy. But in hindsight, it probably doesn't matter. The connectors were sealed to the wire with marine sealer, and the inside of the connector is full of dielectric grease to keep water out and corrosion down. Will see how well it holds up.

Gorilla glue might work, also epoxy. I find epoxy sticks to stuff you would think it shouldn't. Like the treads in my work boots are filled with epoxy from working on the hard top. Darn stuff won't come out!

Goop or shoe goo, sticks like stink but can be peeled off if needed.
Hold the wire with duct tape til the glue sets.
