I am in Australia again on business. I went to a restaurant here called Vlado's last night. Steak house, good reviews, great atmosphere . . . They use a fixed menu at $75 Aussie Dollars a head (about $65 real dollars :p ) . Includes two appetizers, a salad for the table, a main course and dessert.

First course: Pretty large Beef sausage for each, cooked on an open flame grill .

Second course: a platter for the table with some little Fillet Mignon steaks, some little pork chops, some little hamburger patties and some little pieces of calves liver, cooked on an open flame grill.

Main course: A choice of a big New York (they call it a Porterhouse), a small New York, a big Fillet or a small Fillet. They bring the steaks to the table to choose from. Then they are . . . you guessed it, cooked on an open flame grill.

Dessert: Beef crepes, no I made that up, crepes with Strawberries and Ice Cream.

All good meat, very tasty, but by the time the steak came I was already a little tired of beef and about half way through I was seriously done . . . I never leave food and I left a huge chunk of a beautiful steak last night.

Does this sound good to you? The place was packed

Sounds like I would get sick every night, but by knowing the sequence and planning ahead I could skip everything but the filets. 8)

Yeah, I was trying to plan ahead as I pretty much knew what was coming. What's really weird is the tastiest deal may have been the little hamburger patties. I loved those, they were about the diameter of a poker chip, great with the horseradish they served. Knowing a bigger steak was coming, I didn't even try the little fillets . . . I may have missed the best part.

What? No shrimp on the barbie? With a name like Vlado's I'm surprised it didn't come with a carafe of blood - wllaaahhh, wllaaahhh!

Just the meal I would love.
Vegetables and salads are rabbit food and might cause your ears to grow real long.
I grew up on cheese and milk and sustain myself with beef which I buy half a calf at a time.If PETA ever discovered what my freezer holds they would have enough evidence to accuse me of bovine murder 10 times over.

Man after my own heart! I could not have expressed it any more succinctly. Whenever Mrs Boomyal puts a meal on the table, if it is not apparent, I ask, "where's the BEEF?"

If I ate that much beef my colon would be locked up for a week. Did you at least have beer to clean the palet between courses?

No beer last night, but a little Scotch and a very nice Margaret River Cab-Merlot. I am becoming quite the fan of Australian wine . . .

Don't get me wrong, I am a serious carnivore. They could mixed in a little something though. And seriously, how many groups of people do you know that could go to a restaurant with a fixed menu like that and not have somebody with a problem. Obviously some PETA freak would be floppin' on the floor having some kind of seizure, but you think they'd offer some grilled roo, or prawns (shrimp), or crays (lobster), or maybe a chip (fries) or two.

More power to them, easy inventory, great margin, no ovens. Vlado stands over the grill with a pair of tongs. All you need is a cow to wander by once and a while and a chain saw, and you're in.

[colour=blue]Where is Vlado? Are you in Melbourne next saturday or sunday? You got that cheap pre-paid mobile yet? d:)

If you are ever up in Brisbane you gotta try the Breakfast Creek Hotel. They have a display cabinet about 100ft long filled with every conceivable piece of cow you can imagine and all at various stages of aging. You choose, they cook.

Vlado's is in Richmond just East of the City Center. 61 Bridge St. I'm off to Perth on Friday night. Home from there on Thursday . . . I actually did get an Aussie sim card that I can throw into my phone, but it isn't saving me any money and what a pain in the arse. They don't give great deals to foreigners . . .

Did they give you one of those little baby aspirins to stave off the impending heart attack?
