My earliest boating recollection was at age 4. When I was 13 Dad sold the boat because it was starting to get rotten from years of outdoor storage. Mom wouldn't let him buy a new one because they had no garage to store it in and she wouldn't have another in her backyard.
When I was 19, Grandma had just died and Grandpa had just retired. I suggested to him we build a boat in his garage and then keep it there when finished. His eyes lit up and the project began forthwith.
When I was 21, and had just graduated from the University, I took a cute young thing out for a boatride and I told her she could be first mate for the day.
Its now 46 years later and the old girl is still around. Many boats have come and gone but the Admiral was the best decision I ever made.
Sounds like at 21 you're already doing pretty good.
