We bought 4 bumpers for our boat, from Wal-Mart. I would think that youi could re-air them up. There is what appears to be a "plug" over where I "assume" is where it was originally aired up.

Anyone have these?? Can they be re-aired??

Thanx

Re: Boat bumpers

i've seen some you can't refill. those become dog toys on my boat.

oh, btw, gotta do it....boats use fenders, not bumpers...unless you're at the fair.

taylor made are the ones to get, replaceable for life wherever they're sold.

Just use the old ski belts from the 1970's....dont tell me I am the only one who still has these? We will actually still use them to jump in the water (not skiing).

If the plug can be removed w/ a standard screwdriver, they can be pumped up. Mine have this plug. Remove the plug and inflate with a compressor blow gun. The plug hole has a one way airvalve and will not let the air back out.

70s my foot. My family started skiing in 1958. Belts were the only thing available at the time. Of course, you could buy a pair of combo skis at Sears for about $25, too, and folks skiied behind 35 hp johnnyrudes, too.

Those were the days. You could only squeeze three people in the boat my dad had, so the rest of the party had to go ashore in a cove at the lake while somone skiied, someone drove, and someone observed.

I remember being 16 years old, 6'1" tall and weighing about 150 lb....getting up on a slalom ski behind my dad's 13' boat with the 35 hp Johnson on the back. Took a while, it did.

I remember, too, teaching my girlfriend at the time, who was all of 15 years old, how to ski. That boat would actually pull two double skiiers out of the water, so I was back there helping her. We both got up and skiied off for awhile. Then, she fell, and I dropped off. But...she lost the top of her two-piece bathing suit when she fell. Hilarity ensued, for sure. :D

Re: Boat bumpers

The fenders sold at wally world are attwood brand and are not refillable. Once they are flat they are done. Taylor made and polyform both are lifetime replacement against spliting and have a ball type needle valve. Good luck, Eric

On hot days and higher elevations they will be fine. Cold weather and sea Level will be the worst.
I have one 30 inch by 10 one that does not have a fill valve and when we are at the ocean in 50 degree weather it seems pretty flat, but to be honest when the fender bumps the dock it is a better cushion the the ones that are full of air.

Bodega Bay Great Weather on May 17 2008, Air Temperature 50.9 , Water51.4 F

Re: Boat bumpers

I looked, and yes, they are Attwood brand bumpers. When I bought them, my wife had me on a budget, so to speak, and I should have bought the Taylor/Made ones. I probably will get me some Taylors, here pretty soon.

Thanx

Don't worry about the Taylors or custom made fenders. Just use the ones from Walley World until they are flat. They might last as long as you have your boat and they will do the very same thing. All they are is a plastic tube full of air. As long as they have air in them it doesn't matter the brand unless your in the uppity up class.

Re: Boat bumpers

One of mine went flat I drilled a small hole then blew it up and sealed it with a stainless steel screw coated with silicone. It has held for several months so far.

Wondering about these

18.6 ft BowRider will be docked rarely, mostly just when at launch. I guess I might be overnight a couple times a year. I like the idea of these for a protection standpoint and storage.
Any opinions welcome. Basis for opinion would be great too.

Thanks in advance.

Add : If I was to get your standard round bumpers how do I determine ideal size?

Get the biggest they make. Wal- Marts only has one size in the round ones. They are the large ones, about 16- 18inches long. The gunwales on most boats are fairly flat so I don't see those pads doing much good and certainly no more better than the long round ones for $6 at Wal- Marts. No I don't work for Wal-Marts, I'm just a tight wad and a wise spender.

Re: Boat bumpers

i've never tried those flat ones but i have observed that a dock or another boat's rub rail will always be at the exact height to not match your gear whenever possible. it's best to get the biggest you can, imo.
