Thanks! I noticed when I changed the timing I got ticking sound from the engine. Kinda hard to judge the advance because the marks only go to 12? but I'm sure I can eyeball it.

Use an advance timing light. You dial in the advance, and when the timing reaches that advance, it shows the initial advance on the marks (ie 6BTDC). Dial in 26 degrees on the light, and when the engine reaches 2000rpm the timing marks would show at 6BTDC...

It help the boat a little bit now I can get over 4000 rpms but something still isn't right! It doesn't stall so easy while giving throttle but when wot it kinda revs up and down a little.

Sounds like the carb needs a clean, or the fuel filters, or look for an air leak (section of clear hose in the fuel line just before the pump will show that up nicely).......

And my idle sticks a tiny bit it doesn't like to got back down to regular idle unless you tap the lever by the carb!!!!.....

Adjust the throttle cable anchor point (Just behind the carb) back a bit...

Here is a pic of the Craftsman advanced light I have, which is a dinosaur. The new digital ones today also display engine RPM.

With the advanced light you just need the 0? mark. Turn the knob till the timing mark is at Zero and your timing is displayed on the knob...that's your timing, whether it's checking initial or total, or somewhere in between.

Well the boat is now at the marina being looked at! My wife was getting tired of me spending all my time on the boat. Didn't bother me much just her! Lol. I will post the details when I get it back! Hopefully it doesn't empty my wallet!

Well I get my boat back tomm! According to the marina the points kept getting burnt every time new ones are put in. The coil was an automotive coil which broke down over time. Also the timing kept jumping out of sync. Dwell was off and point gap. So new points new coil timing set and a wire was changed! Believe a resistor wire.

Thanks for all the help guys! Wire from tach to coil was bad also timing was off points were burnt. So new coil points and wire and I'm good to go. Coil was an automotive coil! Although I've heard they will work I wouldn't suggest it! Guy that had it before me just slapped the cheapest stuff he could find. Its in good hands now. Thanks all!!!!.....

Well the boat runs good now but I need to get a new distributor! At wot there is a slight miss that the normal boater wouldn't notice. So now gonna have to track down a $385 dist.

Worn shaft and/or bushings? I've had a few rebuilt by a good auto-electrician, and the results are excellent. They replace the shaft and press the old bushings out and new ones in... And way cheaper than a new distributor...
