Re: Boat Snack Ideas?

beef jerkey is always one of my favs, 22g of protein and low fat, never spoils and takes up no space.

cons, store bought jerky is pricey. I usually dehydrate a lot of meat during the winter, besides deer, i usually pick up steaks of different animals to experiment with, we have made red deer, buffalo, kangaroo and of course beef jerky last winter. get steaks, but if youhave to buy ground, low low low fat is best. fat does not dehydrate at all lol.

i highly suggest getting a dehydrater and try different spices and cures, it is a great hobby for the winter. you can even dehydrate apples and bananas, seeds anything!

it takes a few days to cure and dehydrate but stock up and it can last a summer of camping fishing and boating....

If I'm heading out on the water for a few hours and I've already eaten lunch, I always bring one of those small rectangle blocks of cheese and a cheese slicer. If I get hungry, the wife slices while I drive the boat. It's quick and easy and doesn't make a mess.

This might sound really odd, but a whole roasted chicken make a fantastic snack food for a group. It'll stay warm for a really long time in a cooler (obviously not the same cooler you use for cold stuff...) and one can simply pull chunks of meat off with their fingers if desired. Personally, I bring a knife, at least for the breast meat. It's really cheap and a huge hit.

Cans of sardines and oysters! We keep them stowed and always have Ritz and Saltines on hand.

Great for an afternoon or midnight snack! :D

a stash of werther's hard candies is handy to have around... works like a charm to turn the mood around if a kiddie or two starts getting ornery before you're ready to head back in. Usually buys you at least an extra 1/2 hour of fishing time.

Summer sausage and a brick of cheese. Crackers are optional. It's my ice fishing snack du jour as well.

Re: Boat Snack Ideas?

I like pringles instead of potato chips. The form factor is small and easier to store and doesn't crush the chips. If the tube gets knocked around there's not a mess.

block cheese and hard cured meats (pepperoni, summer sausage, etc) are a staple along with a box of crackers.

peanuts and m&m's mixed about 60% peanuts/40% m&m's. I put the mix back into the plastic peanut canister (bottle). It keeps them fresh, minimize messes as a result of spills and makes them just darn handy. m&m's don't melt in the heat. ;)

cookies: need I say more (who can live without cookies??)

I use vac-pac meats because they don't leak and can be stored underwater in teh cooler. Keeps the ice and water clean (nobody wants beef juice on their beer, and nobody wants soggy meat). Plus they can go easily from the fridge to the cooler, back to the fridge, if need be.

I also keep some dry goods for emergencies: canned chicken, canned meat (hash, spam), canned deviled ham. Since there's always mayo in the fridge and usually bread of some kind, it's easy to whip up a quick sandwhich.

Re: Boat Snack Ideas?

We usually bring fresh cut fruit and cherries when in season. Then we have what I call bun food. Anything that can be put in a sliced bun and can be held in one hand. Panko fried chicken with teriyaki mayonnaise is good with a little Texas Pete thrown one the chicken. Leftover steak sliced with horseradish sauce, etc... If it can be eaten with one hand and it doesn't drip all over the place I'm good. Just give me the fruit when we have to idle in No Wake Zones. It's Florida and it can get darn hot going down the Dead River and no breeze.

Hey neighbor U know thats rite!!! I was gonna say beef sticks and string cheese. Same thing only different.. filling/satisfying compact..

Here is a concoction I use when deer hunting and need that energy to stay on my game[pun intended]

This covers some/ most of the major energy sources...[Grains.protien carbs ,potasium, fat. calories
I make one sandwich A bite or two an hr and I am good all day. I dont feel hungry, full or sleepy from a big meal.. But satisfied-lean and mean!!! LOL

whole wheat bread
peanut butter
jelly
banana
bacon
Like I said I make one sandwich, with everything on it, just for the convience. Sometimes though after climbing around the woods comando style, climbing trees with that sandwich in my pocket, it ends up looking like a big purple meatball:eek: But DAMN its good !;) My point is that those are all different high energy fuels, and it just keeps you going. However you want to eat em'.:D

Any of the canned meat products keep well. Deviled ham & chicken, spam(of course), vienna sausages, sardines, etc. sharp cheddar & ritz or captains wafers. I also keep a bottle of pepper sauce, just for flavor, to compliment the beer.

Re: Boat Snack Ideas?

guess i've got nothing new to add.

we do crackers, ritz or club. a block of cheeze. cheddar or sometimes hot pepper. sometimes pepperoni or hard sausage of some kind. peanuts of various flavors... maybe some cheeto's...

anything that don't make much mess and is easy to store and don't spoil fast.

and of course some pop to wash it all down with.....

I found a new boat snack this summer. Stacy's Pita chips--Parmesan, Garlic & Herb.

Try the cinnamon sugar variety. Not so much with beer...but really good! I've been known to go through a bag in one sitting.
