Re: bolt wont thread!!!

To do it properly the p/h should be pulled and a heli-coil installed and a new p/h gasket. Maybe somebody on here knows a short cut.

You're leaking exhaust correct? It won't ruin engine that I know of, but it will choke the carbs and the motor won't run correctly.

Can you actually see where the leak is?

yes from back of the exhaust gasket behind the bolt that is not threading i cant see any actual exhaust just a run of dirty burnt fuel after use

Not sure if it's a viable option or not...but can you seal the area with JB weld(or whatever) to stop the leak?

Re: bolt wont thread!!!

I'd think that JB weld would just make the leaking exhaust take a different path than directly out the bolt hole. A longer bolt wouldn't help since the factory gave you the right size bolt for the hole they drilled and tapped. What boobie suggested is the best way. The least worst way would probably be to trailer it to a machine shop and have them drill it out and tap it to a slightly larger bolt. Inexpensive and easy. Depending on the condition of the gasket though you might not have much to gain from just having a bolt clamp two non-sealed mating surfaces together.

i looked twice can't tell is this mid-section to power head gasket? if so looks like you have enough room to work without pulling powerhead. you will have to enlarge hole in mid section to get heli coil in.and may have to use a washer or a bolt with larger head but it should work

Just let a machine shop do it. They can drill it out larger, tap it, and give you a new bolt for about as much as you'll pay for the bits you'll chew through and the heli.

Archcycle has a good idea if the p/h gasket isn't already damaged.
