No good deed goes unpunished! Was towing someone in to dock after they overheated last night. The Missouri river has this tendency to move sandbars around without warning. Running slow in 8ft of water then BOOSH! Hit a sandbar. Stupid me, I shut the engine down, started lifting the drive then thought wait a sec... boats don't have brakes!

Turned around to see my tow buddy on his way into my transom. I jump onto the sundeck to shove his bow to the side as he comes up but I'm too late getting there and not fast enough to move out of the way. Slams into my right hand and I hear "SNAP SNAP!" I hit the swim deck, his boat bounces and the keel lands on my arm, slides off and back into the water.

I managed to get back to the courtesy dock and get the boat onto the trailer with one hand.

Only damage to the boat was a fingernail size paint chip on the swim deck and my stern light base got pulled out of the mount. I got two breaks in my wrist and a "crush injury" to my upper forearm.

DAMMIT!

That really sucks! A good deed will repay you in the end. Think of the good luck you have coming.
Heres to fast healing!;)

That sucks. I've broke my radius right at my wrist before (motocross injury). I have a plate and a couple screws that will stay in forever.

It is important that you understand, its the Law of Boating.
every now and then, the Boating Gods need a sacrifice,it keeps them happy.in your case,it will protect you from future problems,in my case it will insure nothing of the sort will happen to me,as the Wrist Sacrifice only happens but once a year................:D

"I managed to get back to the courtesy dock and get the boat onto the trailer with one hand."

If you broke it helping someone out.. Why were you left to load up alone after your good deed?

Re: Broke my !@#!#@ wrist.

I have no idea why they didn't help. All I noticed is that they didn't!!

The specialist I saw today had a similar story. Broke his hand when a hatch slammed shut on it, on the way back stopped to tow a guy and his son in a canoe back to shore (shore winds had blown them miles out). Got to the dock and the guy didn't stop, just waved and rowed away.

On a good note, I cracked the radius in a few places but it didn't separate, so I'm in a wrist brace/cuff thing for 3 weeks. If it doesn't separate, just a little PT and I'm back in business.

I'm sure it's the same everywhere, but on the Missouri River around Bismarck, owning a boat means there's a 75% chance you're an idiot.

Darn man, that Kirby or Dyson real bad.

I try to tell myself all the time to not do that, but I often will jump out to keep a boat from bumping up against me.

oh, and around here, it's not 75%, it is more like 90%. :D

Boy, I hope there arn't more than a couple of us North Texans on here or we will be trying to figure out who's in the 10% category. :D

Find out where the jerk docks his boat. Some nite, hop aboard & take a nice long wizz on his carpet.

" But there's booze in the blender, and soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on"

Seems like ya got a little "hangin on" to do.

Hang in there Danond, and Marine probably nailed it. Just a little sacrifice for some of the things we get to do.
Not everyone takes the risks or the sacrifices to do the next right thing. Good job and fast healing.
