Re: Bush finally gets it!

Why am I not surprised at how many on this board DO get it? Bravo! Why is it a vocal few want to whine and complain anytime someone takes a reasonable stand for anything important? But we who do get it fail miserably if we allow the whining far left to keep getting their way. Historically, it is clear that we have gone way too far towards socializing this fair land. Mr. Jefferson and the other founding fathers must be spinning in their graves. (Look at their writings for yourself if you want to know how upset they'd be with us fo allowing so many perverted interpretations of the Constitution to happen! Jefferson was concerned that the Judicial branch would eventually become an oligarchy. How prophetic!) Likewise, we, the USA, must continue to do right and not quietly look the other way as totalitarian murderers grow stronger in their attempts to rape the world. The infamous dictators of past gained their power how? By the indifference of those who knew better! We've pretty much saved the world a few times now. But I'm concerned that we're weakening in our core values. I must say though, I'm encouraged by all your responses! Red, White, and Blue forever! Way to go troops!

Way to go Bearcat Powered....I could not have said that better. I am amazed at how or why people, people who profess to be good caring people could stand by and allow any kind of evil to prevail anywhere. America is by far the greatest country in history but if we just sit on our hands and let dictators like Saddam or the many countless others destroy and take over the world we someday will SHARE THAT FATE, I want my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to enjoy the country I am so lucky to have grown up in and I would give my life to insure that in a heartbeat. I have faith MOST of us on this board would do the same.

Re: Bush finally gets it!

Pot stirrer? Hmmm....

I think it is important to find out exactly why we went to war with Iraq. The reasons for it seemed to change by the hour. The only thing the evidence tells us is that the reasons for this war were not as stated. It is an open question what they really were, but it isn't what they said.

And getting facts straight? That is laughable. I suppose the evidence of Saddams ties to Alqaida come from our wonderful intelligence, that has been proven to be wrong on every other occasion, and as near as I could tell, provided by Chilabi and his Iraqi defense league, or somesuch, and who had visions of taking over Iraq. Kind of like the cartoon of the fisherman telling his buddy that "There must be lots of fish in this lake-no one has ever taken one out before"

At least I try to deal in facts. As near as I can tell, there is no evidence of any threat to the US from Iraq that anyone can identify except for abject irrational fear. Not even his neighbors feared Iraq.

I guess you can take some solace in that this president is not a door to door vacuum cleaner salesman...You'd all have a closet full of vacuums in that case.

Re: Bush finally gets it!

The way I see it Plywoody there is right and there is wrong. If you cant see that Saddam was in the later catagory you probably need some help. I dont care what exscuse we used to go in and take that evil man out, just as long as we did. I believe the reason we even have to come up with all these other reasons why we did....WMD's...ties to terrorists and such is to appease people like yourself it would seem willing to let things, no matter how terrable happen as long as they are not in your backyard. Fact is he supported 9/11, Gased his own people, murdered countless others among so many other things that if we(america) didnt do something nobody would have. Who cares what excuse we used at least Bush had the guts to do whats right.

Plywoody,

While I may not have agreed with Bushes position in going to war with Iraq we are there now. As for everybody else I believe that while Bush did not say there was a link between 9/11 and and Saddam, his VP said it on all the Sunday news shows (maybe in not so many words but the interpretation was there)when they were tring to drum up support, also mirrored by Rummy.

The only one I do not remember making that claim was Colin Powell. That was one of the reasons why I was suspicious of the whole thing to begin with. I think Powells integrity would not alow him to spin the facts. You can bet that what was said was said with GB blessing.

Now before everbody does "Dog Pile on the Rabbit." :D

In the light of things that where found in Iraq:
1. Terrorist training camps.
2. Torture Chambers.
3. Enough money in Saddams houses to help every indigent in the country.
4. A dictatorship that cared nothing for human rights but to hold and maintain power for a select few.
5. I could go on but you get the jist.

The International Community that did not help us in this endeavor are as guilty as Chamberlain was with Hitler in the 1930's. Every country should be ashamed of their behavior. I know I am ashamed as a human being that another human is capable of this type of atrocity.

So Plywoody take this Troll and STUFF IT!! Forget the Electionering. Your Business is Booming because of the Foreign policy of this President. You will most likly not change the mind of anybody on this site. Personally, I give the man a lot of credit He stands by his convictions and admits when he might have been wrong. When did ever you hear the previous administration do that. S**t we are still debating on what "is" means. And we are still there. If the President in the previous administration where in charge we would still be wondering if we should be going into Afghanistan.

This post was way too long and on that I bid you,
adieu. ;)

Re: Bush finally gets it!

Mr. Plywoody,
I am a guy who grew up in Louisiana and decided to wear the uniform to serve my country. I am a simply man...don't ask for much, don't require a lot of money. I joined the service to do my part in serving my countrymen, people like yourself, to continue to debate things like you have brought up on this forum.

You say you deal in facts. Well, my good sir, I haven't heard anything factual from you yet. It simply appears to me that you have been watching too much liberal TV. The man (Sadaam) was very, very dangerous to our way of life. Period. There is no other way to say it. I can't give you any facts, but I can tell you I was, and still am, ready to give my life to protect you, and all Americans, from him and his influences. I was concerned about going to war, but knew it was necessary.

I served during the first Gulf War as well, and all too well remember what he aggreed to do when he surrendered. He failed to comply and we gave him more than a few opportunities to do so. I clearly rememebr another Presidency putting me and my fellow countrymen in harms way while we were waiting for him to comply. i wish we had taken him out back then. I would not have lost some of my fellow servicemen that way.

You deal in facts...well, and I truely mean this, please find some if you are going to have an opinion. I don't mean any disrespect by that...its a challenge. If you are going to argue, give us something concrete we can sink our teeth into that will make us think. Too many are griping about this president. Lest they remember where we were with the previous one. This president is honorable and I will follow him anywhere. I trust him. And he did the right thing. Sure, it may not being going as smooth as we would like, but this will take time...a long time.

Now, to conclude. I was not offended with any of what you had to say...until you posted the crap about my president being a door-to-door saleman. Well, it is my opinion you don't know about honor, and courage, and integrity, and serving your country. He is doing great things for America. What are you doing besides taking pop shots from behind a computer screen?

Best wishes to you my fellow American (I think you are American), I really hope you see the truth soon.

God bless all our troops.

Re: Bush finally gets it!

Jgregory,
You said "while Bush did not say there was a link between 9/11 and and Saddam, his VP said it on all the Sunday news shows". I saw the news shows, and when asked if there is an Iraq connection to 911, Cheney said "we don't know". Bush said "we have no evidence to link Saddam to 911". Nobody has linked 911 to Saddam...ever. This particular baloney started when poll results concluded that Americans believed Saddam was linked with 911, and the media said that Bush miss led the American people into thinking that to allow him to go to war. I've never misread them and never ever thought they linked Saddam to 911 conclusively. The only thing that pointed that way was the "intelligence" of Mohammed Atta meeting with The Iraqui officials, and the other stuff laid out by Powell to the UN. I personally think this all to be a bunch of semantic #$%@. If a pollster asked me today "do you think Saddam was involved in 911", I'd say "sure could have been" or even "seems likely to me". That would be marked as a yes, and the idiot newsreaders would conclude that I was a misled Bushie since they have stupidly concluded that Saddam was "not" involved in 911. Please tell me that the likes of our newsreaders and Plywoody can understand the difference between "we don't know if he was involved in 911" and the conclusion that "Saddam wasn't involved in 911".

Re: Bush finally gets it!

Folks, PW is not going to change. That would require thought and reseach, er work.

During a debate with a liberal, it is not about the facts, it is about PW or any lib getting in as many verbal attacks as he can to forever keep us on the defensive. In their eyes, the end always justifys the means (same as the fundamentalists reading of the quran). So they dont feel its necessary to play fair.

I'm not saying to just ignor him, I just dont want to see educated people waste there time with certain individuals who have no plans to debate but only attack.

In process of trying to win them, we make them feel needed, important, powerful, and malipunative. We dont need them.

Someone, in this post said that they didnt care if we didn't have what is necessary to remove Sadam.... ( sorry..I may not have the statement completely correct and this is an edit to finish this post so I cant review at the moment).

You inadvertantly gave the lib a win on their spin. You agreed with just one of many attacks by this lib. I know you didn't mean to. :(

Try keeping it short with them. Debate one point at a time. Dont let them wear you down so you willing to give them something or compromise what you know to be the truth.

They usually disappear when you keep sticking to their first point/attack...if they wont respond to your point then waste no more time with them.. just my observations here..

ojb

Re: Bush finally gets it!

PW is our token liberal. He doesn't get under my skin at all, and I like getting a chance to answer the typical liberal spin you hear every day. He is just but a representative of a particular way of thinking. I think you nail it Oddjob, that the ends justify the means for them, and maybe it is also the result of a child like burning disdain and internal hatred for those that they believe prevent their vision of utopia from occurring. They don't seem to be constrained, from what I can tell, by a self imposed duty to seek out what is true and logical. For all their self proclaimed good intentions, I find many of them to be dishonest. Without a fundamental structure of self imposed intellectual honesty, what have you got? It is up to those with their integrity intact to argue and fairly decide matters of importance.
