Re: Cabin removal on Starchief 18'?

SCK - $2500 package price sounds fair to me. but what do I know. Thanks for the info about scrapping. I think a few toss that out to hasten the sale, but don't or won't want to do the work to get that scrap price. They are selling because they don't want to work that hard.

By the way, I am not planning on scrapping any tinny! But I might start picking up beer cans along the road.

Re: Cabin removal on Starchief 18'?

What would the real value be on a good running 110 Evinrude?
I've got about $1400 in my 75hp which is a few years older, it's got a rebuilt power head and they resealed the lower unit and put in a new water pump right before I removed it from my last boat.
I'd say the 110 is in at least as good a condition, maybe better if you count cosmetic appearance. The 110 still has clean original paint, showing only some boat cover wear on the engine cover edges. He had it running when I was there the first time, it fired right up and ran great. All he had to do was to hook up the boat's fuel tanks, he had it running on a portable tank then, the boat tanks were empty and he didn't want to add gas and let them just sit. The oil tank also needs to be mounted but was connected and just sitting under the splashwell.
The seller has a boat that's rated at 85hp, which has an older 85hp V4 on it now, I think he was just going to use the 110 on that boat but my 75hp may be a better match so the idea of a trade came up. I just don't want to let go of a motor that I know is 100% for one that's unknown to me, even if I'm trading up in engine model year. I do think the 110 hp would push that Starchief far better than my 75 hp would, even if I stripped it down and made it into a center console.

If I can make the trade motor for motor, I can swing the deal, if not I'd have to wait a few more weeks to come up with the extra $1000. I got the impression he really didn't want to let the 110 go, but I'm sure he's not looking to remove it if he can get a fair price for it or trade it for something he has more use for. The one part I'm a little concerned about is it not having power tilt and trim, my 75 hp does have it, and having it would be a major plus in that boat with the huge splashwell. Is $350 for a new take off T/T the going rate? Right now the 110 has no T/T, but he's got that new unit there for it. What does it take to install one? The unit he has has no hardware, just the pump and rams all in one assembly. Do you just remove the tilt assist ram and bolt in the tilt unit using the same hardware?
