I was taking yard wast up to the dump today. Just as i was leaving this guy and his wife pulls up and starts throwing out garbage. Well out comes this small Honda Generator (EX650). He puts it down in the garage sale part of the dump and leaves. Well seeing this I walked over there and grabbed it. My wife that was with me at the time looked peeved for me grabbing this meaningless peace of junk.

After explaining to her what it was and how much they can cost she kept quiet.

Got it home checked the oil and things all OK. Two pulls later its humming along with out a hiccup. It work great and i think it will be a great addition to the boat.

Some may think i was dumpster diving but i think it was a SCORE.:)

PS it even came with a half full tank of gas.

They call ours the "take it or leave it shop" - an area (our town has a larger shed ) that you leave unwanted but useable / more often fixable items that can be saved from wasteing land fill space .
A great score - I'm green with envy (pun intended) peter

The garage sale part is where people put stuff that other people may want. The dump has a small house were they put the stuff ( windows, old out board motors, hubcaps, skies, housing things, etc that people don,t want anymore). Ive found a few things worth keeping but lots of junk gets filed in there.

Way to be green and keep the landfill from filling up! You did a great service to all mankind when you took that honda generator that worked! Thank-you for being such an admirable person and taking one for the human race! :D

Now that is a find !

I work on a military base . Folks are always throwing out everything frm computers to lawnmowers .

In 1 week I picked up 2 dozen pushmowers , all ran after an oil change , new spark plug , airfilter , and a carb cleaning .
Sold em for $40 each !

Some days I can pick up 2 or more computers , which run . Usually they are crawling with virii and trojans , so I just reformat and install an os .
I give these away to folks who need a computer . Usually they are P3 era hardware , but they get the job done and run fairly quick with a clean os load .

We are getting a new parking lot at work , and they have 7 satellite dishes that have to go to make room . They are keeping 2 for another location , the other 5 are scrap . I told them I'd take em all down and haul of the 5 they didn't want . I just wish they had decided this 8-10 months ago , as there are ~ 2 tons of steel and a half ton+ of aluminum .

Only thing we can get free here is firewood. For a small fee we can get mulch and compost, which isn't bad. But for you, definite score, well done.

Good score.
Our dump is staffed by trash Nazis.
Gas and oil have to be drained. No picking. Etc.

So does ours, but they can only enforce it if they see you. And, if you go often enough to become good buddies with the guy running the dump, he will pull something out that he thinks you might be interested in, and hold it until you get there. You might be a redneck if.....:D
