Theres a bad storm coming in on these people at echo bay on you tube,start vid at 4:30 search lake mead then upload newest dates and then watch (lake meade echo bay)sandy beach on front with tents in background,dont know how to paste the link here, can anyone help me.

Man, they watched it coming, knew it was coming, saw it was gonna get big..yet still did nothing to prepare - not even moving the boat around that peninsula where it would be more protected or take down the tent, tie down the tube, etc, etc....

thanks,i have no clue how you did that,I too was surprized when i saw that they were just waiting,listened to the weather alert and all and didnt tie the boat into the waves at least.If you drop anchor into the wind and waves and tie the stern off to beach wouldnt that keep the boat safer,just a thought.Or like 12vman said move to other side of cove.

Lots of mistakes right there and the waves were not even that bad, they are lucky it didn't get worse. I wonder if they even had an anchor?

I bet they had fun getting their boat off the beach.

Very carefully?

just goes to show the power and energy that the waves have along with the wind in one of the large basins on Mead - or any big lake for that matter. Reading the weather is just as important as reading the color in the water depths.

been in vegas 30 yrs love to fish lake meade and mohave, only had fishing style boats, nothing fancy now looking to buy better boat,something I can fish and play w/ at the same time,only concerned about the new lake laws coming into effect. Seems like cant get a straight answer from any of the boat dealers or anybody else,always a different answer.Some say it wont happen,some say only for jet skis and one told me only was for outboards.any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What new laws? Only thing I've heard is 4-cycle engines only which is all I have so didn't bother to keep up on it and don't know if it is still a discussion. Now is a great time for deals on boats.

They are banning "carbed" 2 stroke engines on Mead and Mohave after 12-31-2012, or so they say.

I could go into how and why the impending ban came about, discuss the jetski ban at Lake Mead back in 2002 and how that affected outboards, but I probably shouldn't as it would be deemed as political.....

We will be fine as long as water levels allow which is looking good for two years in a row and as long as people can't hike or walk on water.

I launched at Callville on July 2nd and the weather was awesome. I had no idea there was such a bad storm out there later that weekend. It looked kinda nasty in vegas but i didnt hear about it til i read up on here. wow.

Tell me more... I'll Volunteer 2-4 times a month. I'm an Emergency Room and Surgical ICU Registered Nurse with EMS and Lifeguarding experience. Boater Safety is essential to the safety of Boaters and swimmers on the Lake. I have my own boat that is for sale, so this sort of thing may help me sell it too.

This is why i stick to my guns about not going out on holiday weekends! There was another injury i know of that wasnt reported...I had alot of friends at sandy beach, and it came up there too...well my friend goes to move his boat deeper into the cove and as he is trying to hold onto it a good swell came up, and his dock cleat went through his hand...they found an emt and a firefighter, and they got him somewhat cleaned up, so they waited for the storm to break, and hauled tail for calville, his truck was at las vegas marina. they had to get someone to drive his truck up to him so he could get to the hospital. some stitches later, and he came back for the remainder of the weekend. heard reports of one boat upside down in calville and on fire as well.

thanks for finding us here,ive always wondered if i had launched at one marina and broke down how i would take care of the problem.didnt hear of this story that you talked about.

Only Dux PD-400 on Lake Mead. We take on the 8ft surf during windy days while everyone else is stuck on the beach. We don't need a bilge pump, water flows right out. When Rangers don't want to hit the water because its too windy, we can. Fortunately we have pulled many stranded boaters and kayakers out of Lake Mead and Black Canyon. Boater Safety is our priority.

Next Adventure is to head further east on Mead to Pierce Ferry Rapids and evaluate. Last year Burrow Spring was as far East as you could safely go. Anyone in for an camping in the Grand Canyon? Staging will be required because private boats are not allow to Launch from the New Pierce Ferry Road and ramp, but that doesn't mean we cant pick up equipment there
