Re: Can not remove flywheel on 62 Evinrude 40hp.
GULP! Well I guess you could cut it off, but just go slow and be careful. Be a surgeon, not a butcher. I would go the sawzall route rather than the plasma cutter route because of the heat. However, I would worry most about damaging the crankshaft and/or the magneto beneath the flywheel, and who knows what you might find once you get the flywheel off. If it really has been loctited on there, or something, you'll have to figure out some way to clean the mating surface of the crankshaft taper such that the new flywheel will fit properly. I'd be curious to see how the surgery goes, so do take lots of pics if you choose to go that route, however I would try one more time to remove it intact. Maybe you can take it to a mechanic and they can blast it with their industrial impact wrench, or use some sort of ultra-secret, magic, extra-strength flywheel puller that they keep in the back for just such occasions. They make those right? Keep us posted either way. Good luck!
P.S.
Would it be out of the question to consider this one a parts motor and try to find another one? Less than ideal, but perhaps less effort in the long run.
