+1 on that.
The Silverado 2500 WT is available. It comes with the 6.0L engine. Looks like it comes standard with "Letherette seats" AKA pleather/Naugahyde/vinyl :D, most likely has a rubber floor too.
Check it out; http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado-2500hd/features-specs/

If a dealer is telling you a WT is no longer available, they are full of ship. They just want to sell you a more expensive truck.

Yup that's what we buy for Co. trucks. We do however spring for cloth seats. Crank windows, 4X4, manual locks, extended cab long box, tow package, rubber floor, 12,000lb towing capacity, CD stereo, stickers for about $28k, I think we pay about $24,5 for them. Good trucks.

Indeed, a simple work truck just doesn't seem to exist with Chevy (or others). Carpet Really?

Sure it does....a Silverado 1500 WT...no carpet, not much else standard. Just a plain old pickup (4.3 V-6 and 4spd auto.) and you can't even order crap like power seats or windows, chrome package, auto. temp. control, aluminum wheels, CD changer, etc.

You can get locking diff, trailering package, two V-8 engines, and it does come standard with A/C, ABS, 6 air bags, no carpet, split bench seat, AM/FM radio.....about as basic a truck as there is today.

Bubba,

Give the LS engines a chance. They have been around for a decade now.

The beloved SBC is/was a great engine, but keep in mind Ed Cole designed her back in 1955. GM pretty much exhausted all the feasible upgrades they could do to that design.

Allot of the go fast car guys have embraced the LS engines, doing things with relatively stock LS engines that wouldn't happen with the old SBC, all while beating the ship out of them.

I have no doubt the LS engine in a work truck will hold up as well as any old school SBC ever did.

I would have to agree, I love the old sbc but the ls engines are way way better. Our suburban with has a 6L in it with 230K and runs like the day we bought it.

....98 was the last year for the 350......

I think the last year was '99. I have a friend with a '99 Suburban 1500 that has the multiport fuel injected 350 in it. At least for the Suburban, in 2000 when they went to all the soft rounded girlie design is when they changed engines.

My 2010 WT does have the electric window package which i like because you get keyless entry and electic mirrors with defrost

It was nice NOT to have and scrape the ice off them this mouring

When they were having the last 0% 48 month sale they only had two base WTs with the must have locking diff and they both had the window package

They all have standard traction control which worked well in todays snow no more loading 500# of sand bags every winter i hope

1999 was the first year of the new Silverado with the 5.3. I know because I own one. Suburbans changed the following year.

Of course they still make a work truck. Their advertisements show their duallys working, why wouldn't they?

why do you say there is no way to get a 350 in your truck? ive seen bronco 2's with the 2.9 v/6 replaced with 302 v/8's and a 351 to boot...

6.0 dominates the 5.7 in all aspects including longevity and anyone who has had to replace a $400-600 Vortec spyder can appreciate the LSX's individual injectors. People who replaced leaky lower intake manifold gaskets can appreciate the LSX's dry intake. Sadly they still come with dexcrap coolant.

98 was the last year for the 350.

Technically, the last year of the 350 in a vehicle was in 2005.

In 96, the 350 was made into the Vortec 5700 (L31). It was replaced in 2002 By the 5.3L V8, Vortec 5300 (LM7). The 5700 though was still available in the Kodiak/Topkick trucks up until 2005.

The 350 is still available as a crate motor.

I looked a few 2010-11 Ford's yesterday, at a large fleet dealer, just to satisfy my curiosity.

I saw:

1. No carpet.

2. No power locks, no power windows.

3. Vinyl or cloth seats.

4. No chrome.

5. Most 2010's had base 4.6L V-8's except one with a 5.4L. The 11's had 5.0's or 3.7L V-6's.

6. Trailer tow pkg's. (limited slip, wiring, HD cooling, Hitch receiver)

7. Various colors.

8. AM/FM radio's.

9. Some had tilt/cruise, some didn't.

Re: Chevy truck dealer says I'm stuck in the past.

i figure the only way to get a truck to your specs is make it yourself. i have an 87 bronco 2, which are bone stock for things like tow package, for a few bucks and some shopping around i have it the way i want, the way it should have been. class 4 reciever from wall mart, ford 8.8 rear end, and an auto to manual tranny shop. gone are the days when one could order a vheicle from the factory the way one wanted, everyones too concewrened with throwing the product out there and screw the consumer.

Re: Chevy truck dealer says I'm stuck in the past.

My 99 was the last year they offered the 350 in the Tahoe..
I have wanted a new truck for a long time but i hate to trade the old Tahoe.
One reason is i can work on it!
120k on it now and not one leak.
I did do the intake gaskets at 90k and a new waterpump.
Always ran synthetic and good filters. When i had the intake and valve covers off it looked clean as could be...no sludge at all.

It still runs like new so i think i'll diver her till she dies...

if there is no rust and the frame is straight, then drive it till it dies, and drop in a crate engine for a couple grand, cheaper than a new truck, and you get to keep the truck the way you want it. heck, one can get a stoked c rate engine providing the tranny can handle it for a price cheaper than a new soccermomified truck.

Re: Chevy truck dealer says I'm stuck in the past.

now just gotta move the dimmer switch to the floor where it belongs and get back to "3 on the tree" and then we're talking

I kept my old '76 F150 alive for quite a few years beyond it's best before date. The good thing was that it was un-stealable. Kids these days would never get it started with the manual choke and 3 on the tree... Didn't have power steering either, so even if some youngin' did could get it moving, they'd run off the road at the first turn. I gave my 18 y.o. nephew the keys to it to move it out of the driveway, and he came back b/c it wouldn't start. (imagine, having to give it some gas!) And you could fix a lot on that truck with a hammer and a flat screwdriver.

WOW you guys are blowing my mind here  I think all the new trucks out are very nice and you seem to get a lot of bang for your buck. Dont get me wrong I dont buy new anymore unless its for work, but the late model vortec 350 was a pos IMHO. Our 97 Tahoe had 3 motors 2 trannys a transfer case and tons of other 2 3 4 500 dolla repairs at only 160k. Worst part is my mello wife drove it never towing WTF! We decided to give to give Chevy one more shot when my parents went to trade in the 2000 2500 suburban that they had since new. Well we bought it for the trade in and it has been the best car we have ever had. It now has 230K and has only had a new fuel pump and a couple small electric window problems. Now I just feel sorry for the sucker that bought my old Tahoe :D
