Re: Chiropractors

I hear horry stories then I hear good stories about them.
Eventually I will go to one, maybe.
Does anyone know if it is good to go to a Chiropractor if you pull your back out? I have arthritis in my spine and that is what worries me...will they make it worse, or better?
Because when I pull my back out, I have a very very hard time standing or sitting or even lying down.
In fact, the last couple times I pulled my back out, I had to use a cane(just to walk around) for at least 2-3 days until it got a better.
My doctor usually just gives me pain killers and tells me to rest.

Re: Chiropractors

Defintitely check out a Chiropractor BC. He will be able to relieve some of the symptoms.

I injured my back pretty badly a few years ago. Regular Doc said pain killers and rest, Chiropractor had me up and going in a week. It took about a month of sessions to get over it completely, but it was worth it.

Re: Chiropractors

I used one in 93/94
Very professional !
On first visit they took xrays and interviewed me.
Scheduled me for the end of the week.
During the week she called my doctor and disguessed it with him.
These days they just email them with any questions

When I came in on Friday I was expecting the fast jerks and twists etc like you see on TV.
Exact opposite. Everything controlled and proffesional.
The one and only draw back is that you get in tune with your body know when things are getting out of place.

Ive been half trying to find where her and her husband moved the business to because I want to start going back once or twice a month as needed.

Hope that helps a bit.
btw the head of surgery at my health care place goes to them also.

Re: Chiropractors

I'm a total believer.

Years ago, when I went off the back of my motor cycle at 65 mph I landed on my tail bone. The next day I woke up and couldn't feel my legs. Mr.LF immediately took me to the hospital and they found nothing after all the x-rays, and tests.

He then took me to a chiropracter who also did knesiology (sp). The doc took a special xray of the muscles in my pelvic area and discovered that they all all been torn away from the bone and were laying on the nerve endings to my legs. It took month of swalloing raw liver pills, exercise and visits but I never had any long term problems from it.

When I fractured C-5 and C-6 a few yearas ago the first place I went was to a chiropracter. Unfortunately, the damage was beyond their capabilities for the long term, but I still use the PT methods they recommended back then today when I havea flare up.

My BIL introduced me to knesiology(sp) many years ago and I am a firm believer that pressure points and alternative healing works.

Re: Chiropractors

Most Chiropractor's will tell you if they think you need surgery, most surgens will NOT tell you if a Chiropractor can help you. Chiropractor's helped me a lot, though I am sure there are bad ones out there! Ask around, there are more people that you think that go, someone will will have/know a good one in your area.

Re: Chiropractors

My main problem with chiros is that seem too eager to "adjust" people multiple times. I will remind you all, that I used to work for an insurance company in the claims department, as an auto damage appraiser. So maybe I am only seeing the "bad" chiros. But every claim that I ever saw (and I surely only saw the "bad" ones) that involved a chiro, when the bills & notes were sent to "chiro review" they were deemed "excessive treatment". It's the 3 adjustments a day carp that gets me wondering if they are just milking for money. If it works as well as you all say, then why isn't one ot two treatments in a week (trauma situation) or a once a month followup, good enough? Specifically, Dolluper, would you call something a "wonder" if it had to be repeated multiple times in a short period of time to acheive the desired affect? Probably not. That's why I am skeptical of the industry.

Re: Chiropractors

A good one can work wonders and a bad one can cripple you. Mine happens to be a good one and has kept me out of back surgery for about 18 years now. I still have to be kind of careful what I do but see him only two or three times a year when I really get to hurting. He wants me to come in at least monthly but I wan't afford that.

Re: Chiropractors

There are pro's and con's It can help some while it very easly could hurt others. I have 12 disc with damage and if I went to a chiro that was half lame in the head there'd be a could chance of them screwing me up for life{more then I am}. If someone has a back problem that doesn't go away{lame legs etc..}I would strongly say don't go to a chiro, instead go to a doc and find out what the problem is. This is like anything else check into the pro's and con's before you jump in. Most of all don't forget most of these folks are out for the allmighty dollar.

apparent problem. if I answer question 1 "NO" then I can't logically answer question 4 either "YES" or "NO", and if you don't answer question 4 the poll won't let you exit.

Re: Chiropractors

TilliamWe ,I 'am on a treatment plan 3 visits per week for one month ,then an examination, then twice a week for a longer period ,examination, then once a week all in total 91 adjustments they throw in 10 additional free LOL over the coarse of a year.My neck and shoulders are real bad,as my lower back, years of bending and pulling on wrenches plus car ,motorcycle accidents.Getting my legs crushed between two cars........So for me I fell it is well worth the money as I finally have RELIEF from alot of my pain that other Quaks couldn,t do accept with pain killers tempory relief
edit: I forgot to say it isn't all the same adjustments are different ,they do muscle stimulation, adjustments to lower back ,neck, shoulders very professinal but I guess there has to be some Quaks in the trade also

B said..C
I hear horry stories then I hear good stories about them.
Eventually I will go to one, maybe.
Does anyone know if it is good to go to a Chiropractor if you pull your back out? I drive a truck and sitting on a>> for three thousand miles can make the back/tailbone ache at times.

Another thing that helps me is an inversion table, that is a contraption that you get into and turn yourself upside down and hang from you feet .It stretches the vertebrae out, and takes a lot of stress off your back, plus it gives the spinal column a chance to rest. Got mine at Costco, if you don’t have one up their might checkout Costco.Com.
It will also give you an idea of what they look like.

Re: Chiropractors

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis to the point that without constant medication I can not even dress myself. I have been to several bone crunchers and one of them made me worse but the other three have done wonders. My first and favorite one died, the next one retired and the one I have now is almost as good as the first. The one that didn't work was a guy that used a clicker device to align the bones and I will never let anyone use it on me again. The ones that work for me use only physical manipulation. I am a true believer as long as you choose the right one.

Re: Chiropractors

I went for electric therapy for some pulled muscles in December. While I was there, of course they had to "readjust" my spine. At all four visits, they did this. About 2 weeks after my last visit, my back was sore where they "readjusted" it. 3 days later it was OK. I see how they get you on the merry-go-round of repeat visits. It wasn't pleasant for me! I won't go near them again.

Re: Chiropractors

I have had very good results from chiropractors. Tilliamwe, If you have not ever been treated one or did any reading on the subject you have no idea. I can see where an insurance co may have a problem with it, they don't care to pay any claims.

Crummy Dude, It takes a while and multiple sessions to do any good, the guy was doing the right thing making the adjustments. I have gone 3 days a week and got better and better after every adjustment. There was some soreness after the adjustments but that is normal.

Re: Chiropractors

We have a Chiro member, I can't think of his name right now . . . oh yeah, Manipulator (appropriate in a couple of ways ;) ) If you are Manipulator, I'm kidding, if you aren't, it is kinda funny.

Anyway, wife goes for a specific type of headache she gets. Definitely helps. I have also been to one (with her, not for me) that wanted to adjust our then 3 YO. He claimed (and I have seen it elsewhere) that they can cure ear infections . . .

Re: Chiropractors

My long term experience with chiropractors is that yes, they provide relief, but as far as long term relief, no. The many I've seen seem to want to prolong treatment as long as possible, bringing you back time after time as a source of income. For me, the hassle of always having to spend all that time on return appointments outweighed the benefits I was getting.

Your experience may be different.
