I have a sportjet 90hp that I need to replace the coils on, I have the new coils but the insturction say to lightly coat the core pegs with RTV sealant then re-assemble and tape the ground to the peg. Why does it say to use RTV on the pegs is my question. Seems light the old ones do not have it.

Re: coil replacement

It keeps them from being corroded.

Low RPMS on 90hp sportjet

Low RPMS on 90hp sportjet

Sport jet 90hp
1994 Tracker 18' pro jet
Serial number are worn off the sticker engine so ??? on that

ok After reading through many threads I came up to a solution for my low RPMS I THOUGHT: rebuild my carbs, I did that still no rpms over 3000. So read some more. Look at electrical issues I read so I look at my stator; it is red, I have replaced the regulator due to a melt down some time ago last year. So I take a look at the coils as Calledinsick threads read. Ahh haa 2 out of the three have cores that are broke. So I replace them. Bummer still no high RPMS. Unplugged the rev limiter to check that nothing happens same old story. So now I have got out my multimeter and start to check the stator and trigger Ohms here there readings.
Stator:
683 on 2k scale -- Green/white to white/green-- clymer says this is way out of range for the original black one

Trigger:
1232 Brown to white/black--clymer says this is in range
1601 white to violet--clymer says this is too high

So is the Red stator supposed to Ohm the same as the original black one?

I don't have a 1000 range on my meter as Clymer says to use so I went to 2K AND I'm not real sure on how to use this thing anyway. Instructions please. You know boys and there toys thing.

Has anyone heard of the red stator going bad?

Although I'm not the one who converted this over to the red stator, it does seem like the parts (or at least the wires) coming out from the under the flywheel are very clean like everything had been replaced, but who knows for sure I guess.

Update

Update

I checked spark last night, it has great spark, was'nt expecting that. Must be a fuel issue. Will try a new fuel pump rebuild tonight and a teast run hopefully.

Re: Update

Your red stator is fine , yes it does ohm diffrently than a black one , The trigger readings are bad , 1232 is fine but 1601 is bad and will produce a miss under load . replace the trigger and be sure the carbs are all opening at the same time and that they are all going to wide open throttle. Simple fuel pump test is to crank engine with fuel line in a cup and see if it flows like tap water or pulses , if it pulses then time to rebuild the fuel pump. See the stickey at the top of the PWC section for more info.

Re: Update

Under load (as you mentioned) seems to be where the problem lies. If I throw it into reverse and get it to cavaitate then the RPM will come up, but in forward RPM stays down around 3k or lower. So Trigger is on order. Is it worth doing a switchbox bias test at this point or wait until the trigger is installed? BTY I found this .pdf on the red stator, something I haven't found anywhere else on this site. Maybe of some use to people with the red stator already.

bad news

bad news

well after a hunch I removed the head and found this :( now what to do. Do you think the trigger could have cause this? and is it even rebuildable or worth it?
