Re: Concealed Carry Choice

1851 Navy revolver 36 caliber.

No really, dont see the need to carry one. from sept to nov i will have anything from a 12ga to a 22-250 to a 50cal smoke stick in my truck with me at all times fer hunting purposes.

like i said, see no need to carry a gun around with me. Once you pull that trigger, you can never take it back. if need be i will use the bat or 2x4 in the back of the truck though.

Re: Concealed Carry Choice

I have heard of cops saying a 9mm wont stop some larger people, but the 45 auto did.

I personally prefer a 357 revolver cause its simple, safe, and will knock them down.

A cop here in Houston was killed when he answered a robbery call and his gun jammed. He got one shot off and the next shot was from the bad guys. They tested the heck out of his gun and it never jammed again. Just one more reason for a revolver.

Ohh, and I used to work at a target range and I was amazed about how bad the aim was on those snub nose 38 spl. Max range was about 10 feet.

Ken

I gave up on the 9mm a long time ago after emptying all 15 from a Beretta into a jackrabbit and having to finish it off with my boot.
Still feel bad about that to this day.
.357 with 125 JHP or a full 10mm (the one before it got downsized for PC reasons to get adopted by the FBI) is the MINIMUM for handguns.

Guys...just a serious question here...yea...I'm capable of a serious question...from time to time...does where you live have anything to do with wanting to carry a firearm? No...I'm not one of those "Ban All Guns" nut...just curious.

I'm two young to carry, and I don't think I would have the self controol anyway, at least not right now.

My 74y/o grandfauther won't leave home unless he's straped. He has a .44 on his leg. He's been doing it all his life. He first started when it was working for the company that invented night vision. He had to fly on planes with a the papers on how to make it in one breathcase on one hand[handcuffed to him] and he had a gun straped to his fore arm on the other side. That was a long time ago, no more guns on planes ;)

I don't really know much about guns. My dad has a few in the house. I play areound with a remington .22 when I spend time with my grandfauther.

My dad carrys when he go's into the city and stuff. I don't think my dad or granddad have ever had to use a gun on another person.

I carry a .45 EAA Witness. Factory loads.

The law around here says if you pop someone with your own reloads, you can get yourself into big trouble.

I sometimes carry my 9mm Makarov, but that's a little too small. I figure if you get a guy buzzed out on coke or meth, a 9mm will probably just **** him off. A .45 or a .357 magnum will make him pee his pants for sure!

And the answer to your question Jim...I carry because it may be the differance between your life or the scumbag trying to harm you or your family.

I don't carry because I'm trying to prove anything. It's my God given American-Constitution right to bear arms. Plain and simple.
Look at the states that have CCH licenses. Their crime rate is down (or has gone down)since the citizen started packing.
It lets the thug know we are armed and are prepared to stick a large hunk of lead in their Azz if they try anything (life threatening of course :D )

H.

I carry and old hierloom S&W .38 Police Special that used to belong to my grandfather. It was his service revolver.
If I didn't carry this one, it would be another revolver. I'd never trust the most reliable clip semi-auto with the lives of my family or myself.
And Jim, I carry here and everywhere, because I in the end, you are your own last line of defense.
It has very little to do with my location.

Ultra lite 38 special made by smith. or my pocket rocket 5 shot 22 magnum. Shells for 38 are 125 gr hydro-shock same knock down power as 357.
Most gun fights are going to be within 7 to 15 feet any way so light easy to get out.
any way i am and old wheel gun man myself but would rather have a good rifle but hard to conceal.

Don't know specks......it's immaterial to the questions I ask anyhow. I just asked for my own curiosity. Lived all my life in a small town. Just wondering if living in a larger city makes a difference....if somehow the activities in larger cities makes carrying a piece neccessary. Again...just curious.

Jack,
If you have an AL. Permit, then it is recipricol(sp) with all the neighboring states. There are also states which recognize this permit also. If I can remember the website I will post it. According to my sheriff, Usually, the other states will see that you have done all the legal work for your state and they will honor your permit much like a drivers license. I hope that I never have to pull mine...No one could make me mad enough, but they could scare me bad enough to use it. I go to the range when I can and have taught several teenagers the proper use of firearms. They all seem to think that its a movie ar video game. A few hours of instruction leaves them with a more realistic view. I like the Ruger slogan Gun makers for responsible citizens.

OBJ I carrie mine because I tend to upset alot of people on a daily bases. We have a lot of gang members in side the fence and they have people on the out side as well as the fact that the state lets then out from time to time. If I had a doller for every time a inmate tould me that he would come back to see me when he gets out I could be retired.

Coming from a female...
I don't carry a firearm on myself.
I've never felt the need to carry a firearm.
I know what is there each time I go to town.
I do have my favorite bat under the seat.
At home, watch out! I have my shotgun near each door( front and back. 21 guage in front and 20 guage in back). You never know when those big cats will come calling. right? ooops! I saw a big cat and he just got in the way. Sooo sorry!

jgregory- copy that.
neumanns- rifles? I prefer rifles too.
mellowyellow- me too. That bat will take care of it. It's under my seat too.
Homerr - **** right! It's your
right in the Constitution; the 5th right!
Just my opinion and it happens to be my right too. hey hey! Whooyah! Love that!

OutboardJim

Yes I think where you live makes a difference:
Heres why: I grew up in a small logging town..
about 75 people.. D*mn spotted owel crowd Grrr
My brother still lives there and to this day no
one locks thier house and most people leave thier
keys in the ign switch! In 71 I left when invited
by uncle sam and have lived in cities ever since.
Since I dont have a permit to carrey I have often
skirted the law by carring one of my many black
powder revolvers 45-50 cal.. when closing the
shop or making night deposits.
Besides after my first shot there is so much
smoke you cant see each other and that helps me :)
That should answer both questions,,
Only if I have too carrey a peice..
Link
PS
If your not going to uase it then don"t pack it

Re: Concealed Carry Choice

Thanks for the answers folks. I can see the point of views with each of you. There's a correctional facility not to far from our town and never give a thought to it but we have one of the guards that comes in the shop a lot. Never seen him with a piece unless he has it in his truck. Never occured to ask him. But I understand your position LuckyJim.

Guess it does make a difference where ya' live. Had to laugh when I read Bassies post. Showed it to she herself and she said, "Well....don't have a bat, but the tire iron is in easy reach!"

Well.....gotta go to work. Ya'll have a nice day. ;)

Re: Concealed Carry Choice

I really have to admit this baffles me. I have travelled all over the country, in cities and rural areas, and I have never felt threatened to where I thought I would need a gun...Except on occasion in the forests cruising timber in the spring, when one might surpise a sow bear...
I guess I don't long for the days of Marshall Dillon and Dodge City, and I had naively hoped perhaps we had progressed some from that time, but it does not appear so.
