Re: Considering my first Transom Repair - Now with Pictures!!
Well she floats...and runs! We took the boat out today and it ran well, nice and smooth....no fears of the motor falling off.
When we launched the boat, the engine didn't want to go into reverse....but forward gear was fine....not too big of a deal right?
So we ran off down the lake towards our favorite swimming area. As I pull the throttle back to slow down and then into neutral, it won't go......trying again, this with an expletive (that has to help right?) it still won't go.
Armed with the knowledge that the boat won't start while the controller isn't in neutral, we ran back to the dock.
The plan was to get close to the no wake zone near the dock and kill the motor, anchor, and adjust the shift cable. I couldn't get my fingers into the cable adjustment area without tools. The local Fish and Wildlife officer was nice enough to tow us back to the ramp.
We loaded the boat, and drove the 20-25 minutes home trying to figure out what happened.
Pulled in the driveway, pop the cover off of the motor and start digging for the shift cable. I pulled the throttle cable off, and walked up to try the shifter again to put the shift cable bolt in a better place for me to access.......it shifted as normal. Now I was dumbfounded.
Looking at the motor my wife noticed the low throttle adjustment wasn't right....I look at it, and its adjusted all the way in, not allowing the motor to come back to a proper idle, and holding the shift cable in the drive position.
Guess who forgot to tighten that pesky lock bolt.......So for the cost of fuel driving from the lake home, I fixed it, and we might even run back out there after the kids nap!
Despite the difficulties that are now fixed, I think that qualifies this thread to be moved to the completed projects section!!!
