Cooling ?

1987 5.7 Alpha setup Will the Alph water pump cool this engine ok as a raw water system? The pics here are my Thermostat housing set up. It should.......

Merc did put an Alpha on behind a 454 that year, I have to assume that it did "cool" ok......

I was told it may overheat at idle and might have to ad one of those check ball kits to the housing. I guess i'll try it and see. I can't seem to find the right part# for the check ball kit. I have the screw in 'T" not the t thats part of the casting. Not sure if they have the same check ball kit, or if the length will be correct?

That type thermostat housing doesn't need the check balls, even if you found them, you wouldn't be able to install them.
