Re: Daytona...............

3 short weeks until the Super Bowl of NASCAR. Will Danica and Ricky still be an item??? Funny thing is, they're both running for Rookie of the Year.......... How about those new track driers? Supposedly can dry tracks like Daytona in 45mins. That would be cool..........

Re: Daytona...............

I like the new cars, easier to identify the specific makes even though if you know race cars the body make doesn't really matter anyway but good for new fans I suppose.

As for the spoiler, as always NASCAR will play a little bit and decide where they want the car to be, I am pretty hard on NASCAR but when it all comes down to it I think they only have racing in mind, whatever it takes to put the best race on (as determined by the fans), of course driver safety is a big part of it, to much down force is good in turns but slow in straights blah blah, you can't let the teams decide or they will be going 300 MPH and drivers will get hurt, I don't trust the teams to make driver safety decisions, they would just assume put a monkey in the seat.

I don't have an opinion on the new driers, it would be nice to dry a track faster but inevitably your still fighting mother nature and that is futile, I think I would rather go with an idea like once the race starts (all races start dry) if it rains get the rain tires out, I believe that NASCAR is the ultimate driving challenge, racing in the rain is not more dangerous then in the dry the only reason NASCAR doesn't do it is because fans will not watch wet races at the track I mean who wants to sit in the rain all day.

Dinger? I am happy he got his vices taken care of he is a very nice kid and I only wish the best for him but he handled things much different then Mayfield did, he never denied the issue, he tackled it head on and he should be rewarded for that as he has been, NASCAR (as a whole, the Org as well as its enormous fan base) is not heartless and is very forgiving, I am a bigger fan of his then I was before his issues.

Re: Daytona...............

Interesting summary.... couple of comments:

1) I think the bodies do matter more this year. They were almost identical last year and back (COT). Remember when they used to whine about say "Pontiac has more front down force", or the "Fords are better in qualifying trim"? I expect more of that this year as the bodies are more different between makes than they have been.

2) I think it is mostly fan safety they are worried about with top speeds. Above 200 they can get into the stands if they get airborne.

3) I also like 'dinger and agree he is even more appealing after the incident. However, I thought he originally denied that there were any "drugs" involved. And do we really know what happened? I don't recall anyone ever clearly explaining what he tested positive for, and what the source was.

I liked 'Dinger before and still like him after he "strayed" He enrolled and completed the Road to Recovery program and is on his way to getting a full ride eventually. Unlike JM who to this day "just doesn't get it"......

You're right QC, we still don't know what "really" happened with 'Dinger, which is ok. NASCAR is obviously satisfied with his recovery and the steps he took to get back in the game. I'm totally fine with moving forward....

Looking forward to the Shootout, or whatever it is now, Nextel something or another, and the Duels which will set the field..

I agree. What I was really responding to was that Lipp said "he never denied the issue." Which I thought he actually did in the beginning. No biggee. Like you two, I am good with 'dinger now.

I'd have to dig thru the archives to see what he actually said, it's been too long ago for this memory....lol But, "I think" he said something like I may have unknowingly(thru meds or something), or, I didn't knowingly take blah, blah, blah. You need to watch out for Lipp, he's trouble.....:boink::p :bounce:

Re: Daytona...............

How many laps before they splattered today? 7? I am concerned about the short spoiler. Seems like the cars are extra squirrelly, although the wreck today was a simple mistake. Can't really blame it on the car.

Trouble???

Come on everyone knows I am a lover not a trouble.......

Ok maybe a little trouble...

All I can say is I can't wait, a week from Sunday baby and were off and running!! I think the worst part for me is that I have always been a homer, love the Bronco's, Rockies and Avalanche, and now my home team has a driver I absolutely hate......FML!!

I hope he truely has changed his ways but you know what they say about people changing their colors...

No idea how many laps but it was only 10 minutes into the session. The Unlimited may be a very interesting race.

He was the guy they were interviewing when I first turned on SPEED. That's how I found out about the wreck. He's a 'Vegas boy.

Watching Kurt will be very interesting this year. I think this is do or die for him. He is damaged goods and it hasn't been getting any better. Thing is that both Busch brothers can flippin' drive.

I just heard something I have been begging for. They have eliminated the "dog tracking" of the cars with the Gen 6. Now they have to actually go straight. Damn that was annoying

So no more going sideways down the straights? If you saw that on the freeway you knew the frame was bent...lol Maybe these guys will have to start driving the cars again......

I think they'll driving 'em. Gonna be a handful for a while until the drivers and garage figure them out.

Exactly. I was getting mad at Nascar for not fixing that. Really looked stupid and all they needed was a rule and then all the cars go straight again. I heard it during practice and it sounded like they had figured it out.
