I try to go boating every weekend and although being alone can be very relaxing some company would be nice. My issue is getting people to go out with me, I'm 22 old and none of my coworkers or friends likes to go out. I get excuses like its to hot out or something of that sort. All these guys due is sit at home playing video games. My buddy's at the marina always are willing to go but generally take there boats out as well. Is the generation of people under 30 that obsessed with there computers.

Yes, I believe they are obsessed. I have to laugh when I look at the skin color of the people in the office. The older they are the deeper their tans.

When I was 16, all I could think about was being in the boat. I built a wooden boat at 18 and haven't been boatless since.

At 22 I met a cute young girl that loved boating too. Her father also had a boat. We raised 2 sons and they both have their own boats as well. That was 41 years ago. She's still cute. I think I'll take her out for a boatride tonite! I am 100% sure she'll want to go!

A lot of people just don't know what they are missing or have never experienced what pleasures boating can bring.

22 is that strange time of life when no one realy fits in. friends are getting married or the girlfriends are starting to tug at the choke chain so they go shopping or stay at home with her rather than having fun like they did when they were single. the singles are either drunk or moaning about there x and then on top of that you have people who are connected to the wall socket constantly texting and living a artificial online life that has nothing to do with reality. sometimes you just have to look else where for friends with the same intrests as you have.

so what size is the boat....we going sea fishing or local....it your boat so you get the gas i get the beer...
p.s you are the designated driver so no beer for you....lol

Don't worry, it's not an age thing... you'll get those same excuses as you get older too, and some new ones like "I have to babysit the kids while the wife goes shopping" of "I can't because I have to paint my wifes toenails" or some such crap.

You'll also enjoy boating alone more as you get older, the peace and quiet will be like gold.

Kids are even worse.

We just bought a used 24ft pontoon and If i could I would live on it at the sand bar on the river with everyone else. My boy will spend all day with me but my 2 daughters don't wanna go out because they don't wanna tan anymore...I'm confused.

They're going for the goth "graveyard tan" (white as a sheet), some of the kids think that is kewl today... I think they look anemic and like they're going to fall over dead any minute.

I certainly have that problem; I've had it for 10 years. All my friends say they'd love to go out on the boat sometime. When it comes down to asking them and getting takers it's nothing but excuses. I usually ask 5 to 10 families out each weekend. Sometimes one will accept my invitation. I guess people are just too busy these days to enjoy life.

I think the problem is that you live in a fantastic boating /fishing spot. People up here in Charlotte wouldnt take it for granted.Maybe a ladyfriend would enjoy the boat.Maybe you need a new boat. If it is too small some people will be afraid to get in it. Are there sharks in the water you boat in? If so that might be a reason ...I bet if you were going snow skiing you wouldnt have a hard time finding a friend to go along...You folks down there on the coast are SPOILED......

Hey CG,

How about making it something special that your 'friends' cannot refuse.
Invite them out on your boat for your birthday or some other celebration that they shouldn't refuse then they'll get the boating bug!

Good Luck my friend.

I think kennyfam nailed it: most people haven't experienced boating, so they don't know what they're missing. Keep looking and keep going, you'll find them. But, don't let boating consume you, either. It's always good advice to stay well rounded and you don't want to alienate from your current friends just because they're not currently into boating. At some point, you'll become the "go-to-guy" because you have the boat. Which, btw, we can't verify is true since there's no photos.......just sayin'

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

Next time you are talking with your friends......talk about a party and then schedule it on the boat. That should hook them.

My son is considered "Not Available" every Thursday evening. He and his friends have set aside that evening as "dinner night" and it has been going on for years and it rotates around from home to home and place to place. Sometimes it's a cookout in the woods or at a park etc. Great group of people he has developed as friends ......... it's become a tradition. He started that when he was in his 20's and now will be 37 this year.

Everybody we boat with has a smartphone and so games can come with them.

Boating can be anything from cruising, watersports, rafting up, fishing or just swimming...... someone will speak up with their choice.

BTW many of us are envious of your location........ I miss the salt water :( Freshwater lakes get boring!

Re: Does anyone else have this problem.

your 22, have your own boat, and your friends are sweaty-fingered gamers. you need to perform an intervention.....LOL

seriously, most people are afraid of anything outside of their norm. if all they have done since teenagers is play video games, that's all they know. if they have never gone boating, explain it this way - you can not pick up girls while locked in a basement playing video games.

To expand on Bob's comment, get a few of your marina buddies together, plan a day on the water with multiple boats - either cruising to a destination, rafting together at a beach, etc. and bring along the sweaty-fingered gamers

Feel your pain.
I have friends who own boats and I have a hard time getting them to go out boating.

About ready to drag a keg on board and hang a sign that says "free beer". Internationally known as "new friend bait".

Well my 14 year old always has a game in his hands. That is until he see's my truck back-up to the shop. He drops the game and runs to help hook-up the boat. If I go without him he pouts till he gets to go.
