Re: Dog adoption
A few days ago I posted about my two cats and how I had come to bring them into my household. Yesterday I posted how the older one, the male, was sleeping in my shop. He has been tired lately but I have been chalking it up to old age because he would be somewhere around 16 years old - I don't know exactly because he was thought to be about a year old when I got him, 15 years ago.
Late this afternoon, he seemed especially tired and a little unsteady on his feet. About an hour ago, I went out to the shop to check on him and he was on the floor near his food bowl, which is a place that he never sleeps. As I was debating on whether or not to call my son's mom to drop him off and take my cat to a 24 hour pet ER, I decided to put "Louie" on a pad to make him more comfortable. When I did, he began to breathe heavily and went into convulsions. Louie died a few minutes later.
I will miss my friend of fifteen years. He was a funny cat - lots of personality. But, as I bury him in the backyard in the morning, I will remember that I picked him out from a room full of cats at the pound, the day before he was to be euthanized. In that fact, I feel OK because he had a good life and he enjoyed those many years in places where he could do what a cat wants to do - roam free like a minature tiger in his own, personal jungle.
Here's to all the great pets that we have and here's to how much they enrich our lives as much as we do their's.
