I have a Suzuki 115 1988 year model tore down for bad #4 piston and lower crank bearing and rod problem. Thanks to Rodbolts info, I have just recently had Ackermann Marine, Wilmington NC repair the crank and rod assembly;bore and hone #4 cyl. My question is, on reassembly of this power head should I Disconnect the oil injection and pre-mix or continue to use oil injection. Any ideas on what could have caused this problem which occurred before I bought this boat. Also if I pre-mix what ratio should I use.

Re: DT115 oil Injection

hello
keep the oil injection. if your worried drop a couple more nickels and buy a new pump. clean the tank clean the oil lines. replace any vynil lines that are hard. inspect or replace the oil line check valves and the valve in the oil line from the bottom bearing to the top bearing. buy a new oil flowfilter/sensor assy if your application used it.most common reason for bearing failure is water intrusion. could be head gasket could be a bad exhaust divider plate. inspect everything carefully.
you will need to run premix at 50 to 1 during engine break in. if you decide not to use the oil injection go with 25 to 1 at break in and 50 to 1 thereafter.
good luck and keep posting

Once you get the engine up and running you can verify the output of the oil pump (while you are on premix) by connecting it to a syringe filled with oil and measuring how much it uses in a specific time period. The Clymer manual has the infomation in a table for the speed, time, and oil pump volume.
