theres even one for drewmitch 44 here!
i can only do 6 images at a time so this is gonna be a multiple post

my transom de lamed from the glass hull i could all most pry the whole trans off in one peice but it was just a little too tough......

Why am I involved in this??? Cause of the dust? I got some Dewalt wheels and man those things are great!! Anyways why am I in this thread My transom is solid like Metal. Actually my transom is stainless steel. It most likely weighs about 100 pounds but it is a huge hunk of stainless Steel that came cut to fit from Kohler faucets plant that a buddy of mine works at. They have excess steel that from time to time have to destroy and my transom came from that.

Go buy a grinder from Canadian Tire, they often have them for sale at $20 each. Everytime you cook one, just take it back for a new one. I only cooked one during my project, and got a new one on warranty. Looks like your project is progressing nicely. Are you still going to lengthen it by 4 feet?

Have a great day,

Rob.

Re: easy transom removal with pics

When you cut the inside skin out of the transom like that it is not supposed to be difficult to remove. what people are upset about when removing their transom wood is that they dont want to remove the inside skin of the transom. Your transom does not have the inside glass skin in the pictures. If this is the case then anyone should be able to remove the wood in about an hour or so. If there is a layer of glass on the inside of the transom that you want to save then thats when you have problems. Why would someone get mad that you removed your transom wood? I mean it looks good but i dont understand why you would think that it was all that easy? If everyone wanted to remove the skin like that then they would not have such a hard time. Now the challenge to you is reinstalling a new transom and laminating it to the hull and the stringers without the skin there. Thats a lot of planning and glassing becides the wood of the transom. Now you got to tab everything together without a piece of the puzzle.

I'll say you were lucky, not only did it come right off, but in one piece so it'll make a good template. I had a similar experience with the deck in my 88 Four Winns, cut up to 3" from the hull, and since the deck was only stapled down, a little prying with a prybar and it just popped up, used the old pieces for a template which made fitting the new ones go faster.

Use the old wood as a pattern. You'll even get the outdrive hole in the right place. ;) Works great. That's why it works so well to remove the inner skin.

yup you bet dj.....

the one side is so rot that it isnt there...gone.. but i can still use it and just flip the wood..perfect copy.....in a little worried cus its so wet that it will shrink some. but ill just measure the template and compaire it to the hull.

my mech says he wants to cut the out drive hole...he promises me hes gonna glass in the wood, but i wanna be there to see it done.. dont wanna do all that work just to have some one do it thier way and not the i boats way!
