Re: Electric Boats??????

I remember being at a few company events where we were out in Newport Harbor in Cali and we had a fleet of Duffy electric boats..They were fun for what we did..a scavenger hunt around the harbor and I captained a Duffy with 6 of us onboard. It lasted and performed fine all day at a leisurely 4 or 5 mph...

They have been around forever..and from their website..

Speed/Duration
Duffy models have a top speed between 5.5 and 7.5 miles per hour and can operate up to 10 hours on a single charge. Duffy offers standard power ranges of 48 volts in boats from 16? ?21?. Our 30? model is equipped with a 96 volt power system, providing a speed of 9.5 mph.

Cost wise I would never own one, I guess I'd always be a "smoker" to steal from Waterworld..

If this is similar to a neighbor's boat, it is highly impractical, comparing ocst, speed limitations and little power to address current, wind, boat wakes or surprise weather conditions. A rich man's toy IMO
