Where should the Anti-Vent./Cav. plate be set in relation to the bottom of a Modified Vee hull??? I'm looking for the best all-around performance/handling.
Boat in question is a 1971 18ft with a 1978 Johnson 115. The way it was set up when the engine was new, is the plate even (maybe a little bit below) the bottom of the transome. It is at its lowest setting now. Prop is a Stiletto 21317 13.25x17 SS. I use the boat in coastal waters, and don't want to loose any rough water "bite".
Also>>how much should I expect to pay to have the engine hight changed??? I have no way to lift it.
THANKS

Re: Engine Hight Question???

If you run rough water, it's right where you want it right now. You want as much of the gearcase in the water you can get. If you were running smoother water and wanted more speed, then I'd run it up two holes. But then you'd lose your bite and it'd be about worthless on rough water.

A height change should be doable in an hour or less. Sometimes the lower mounting bolts are impossible to get at without removing stuff. It mostly depends on that.

I agree, using the boat as you do you should just run it as you are and be happy!

Thanks,
I kind of figured the lower setting would be better for coastal running (thats why I mentioned it) but wanted to confirm with more knowledgeable folks.
Jim
