2000 grand each, list on them is $290.00 and you get 1.5 flat rate for one plus 0.8 for each additional. I need to open a marine shop buy you.

Welcome to Western Australia! Prices are mad for some things, not others. Maybe they meant $2000 for all 3 injectors, the labour and the pump, but anyhoo it's fixed and back home.

They fitted a new High Pressure pump (not VST; didn't know about the recall but will check; recalls can take a while to travel the world to allow for parts scheduling). I reckon the failing pump sent debris into injectors, hence poor running even with the new HP pump.

Thanks for all the help; iBoats rocks (thinks - isn't that a bad thing to say about boating?)

There is an excellent forum for E-TEC owners:

Owners Message Board

There is even an Australian dealer that posts there frequently (goes by the user name Huey)

Something I found while getting more information for a future boat purchase (Alumacraft with an E-TEC).

Glad your problem got fixed!

Thanks for the offer but, whilst they are pretty useless, I don't want to name & shame them. It is unlikely I will ever go back.

IMHO Evinrude's warranty system is full of holes. I never signed a job card, I didn't receive any paperwork proving what was done. The Dealer seems able to decide what needs doing and does it, so it could be a licence to print money; they did need authorisation for the injectors though. How can Evinrude audit the dealer's warranty if there is no paperwork?

And Evinrude Australia's "customer service" was pretty poor too. When I notified them of the long delays, lack of resource at one of their dealers etc. they said "work schedule is a dealer issue". No offer to contact the dealer or provide local assistance. Or any offer of compensation or a loan vehicle. The 64 hours old engine cost AU$12500 (US$12000) last year. Compared with the car industry, their customer service is prehistoric.

If it was my name over the door, I would take the franchise off people like this. But clearly Evinrude and I have different standards....

Re: ETEC 90 - Starts but won't run

Here we go again?

20 hours on from the above repair, been running perfectly. Now the engine is doing it again. Starts then dies. Takes 4-8 goes to get started properly. I ran it on the muffs after a run out and it coughed and spat LOTS of black sooty water out of the exhaust. Stained the driveway and garage door. Sooty exhaust says "running rich" to me, but it is EFI so not possible?

Running on 95 octane, fresh fuel, hard bulb, good tank connection (and vent is open!) and when it runs it is fine. Idle is only 550 rpm which chugs a bit - should it be higher?

I will take it to the local dealer if it persists but any ideas out there?

Thanks as ever.

As far as I know most outboards use 87 octane(US),Is that the same as your 95?

IIRC Octane is all the same (but used to be different); the handbook says 91 but the Dealer recommended premium brand 95 so that's what I use.

Taking the boat out tonight so fingers crossed.

Ran better - but still upto 3 goes to start. Still some soot in exhaust water when on muffs - would water in fuel do this? Did start first time once so will wait & see.

Had hoped the early ETEC stories were hi-tech teething problems and figured by 2012 BRP would have got it sorted - wrong so far.
