Hi, I have today mounted my Evinrude15hp generator model 155005C (1975 i think)
I ran it using hose & ear muff things & it runs ok considering it's not been run for 4 years, I have a few questions that im hoping someone can answer:-
1. where does the engine expell the cooling water from, there is no water coming from the exhaust ,but there is a jet coming out from the rear top of the leg when the engine is running, when the engine is not running there is water coming out approx 6 inches above the water intake on the right hand side as you look at the rear of the boat .
2. Should the wires from the generator go to the battery.
3. The engine is noisy like a motorbike when run with hose , will it be much quieter when the leg is under water??

Thanks Bryan

Bryan,
If thats a '75, you should have thru the hub (prop) exhaust. The stream of water from the 'telltale' or pisser indicates that the water pump is working. Your motor does have a thermostat that controls the amount of cooling water that circulates thru the powerhead.
The wires should goto the battery.
Yourmotor will sound loud when on the muffs, thats normal. It will be much quieter when on the lake. Don't over rev the motor on muffs, there's no backpressure. If doing carb mixture adjustments, wait until it's on the lake. The backpressure will change the mixture setings.

If the motor was laid up for 4 years it will most like need the fuel systewm checked from tank to carb with special attention to cleaning.Running it as is could result in any gunk in the system fouling up carb, fuel pump, filters etc.If it still has original fuel lines thay may need replacing as well.If you don't know the condition of the impeller you should change it as well, also change the gearcase lube.

Yep....pump impeller. Yes, you have to drop the lower unit. If your not sure of the procedure, I sure would consider a service manual. Will save a lot of time and a lot descriptive adjectives that could be used better elsewhere.

You might consider just getting a who new kit for the water pump. This would include new housing, impeller plate and seals. The kit runs around $36 American. Don't know what that equates to in your part of the world.

And do listen to the guys about cleaning the carb. Setting for 4 years, you probably do have some varnish in the bowl.

And your engine is younger than 75'. The tell tales (pissers) didn't show up till 77'. Don't have my book with me or a site to check the model number. But I'm sure it's 77' or above.

Yeah model number 15505C with generator, but there is a tell tale on it just under the rear of the engine casing on the leg
