Google it.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

while looking around on iboats forums i seen a guy talking about a flywheel rebuild kit that came with the new magnets and epoxy for 7 bucks! although he never mentioned where he was able to obtained these magical magnets i was wondering if anyone else has had the luck of finding them?

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

well i finally got the rebuild kit ordered for the flywheel and boy was it a pain getting the old magnets out... them things are frickin strong. its a shame they were all cracked and broke cuz the epoxy that was origionally on there would have lasted another 20 years. but good news is all the pistons are in the block now and im waiting on the new wiesco pistons to get here on the 8th. after that im gonna be a wrenchin' machine and get this mad boy replumbed with all new fuel and water lines from the tank back and shes gonna run pretty hopefully with a lil luck

What does this mean? Seems very contradictory..."all pistons in block, but waiting on Wisecos". I hope you are not mixing Wisecos with another style/brand. Wisecos are forged, and others are cast. They have different thermal characteristics, and require different boring tolerances.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

Sorry for the confusion.... three of the pistons were no good and three were reusable. so when i had received the ring set for the standard pistons i installed them. the only thing is i didnt order my wiesco's in time to install them all at once. and as for the magnet kit. i would have figured that it would have thrown the ballance off more with how the motor was running before. the amount of magnet missing from each one was pretty nasty. on that flywheel there are 6 plastic "cages" if you will that dont hold but align the magnets. When i called the guy and marine engine.com he said the balance wont be off one, because the magnets are of original wieght. and two because your not turning enough rpm's whis is 6100 to have it get out of balance. i know im stepping out of my world of cars alil bit and diving into the deep end of marine tecks but im trying to keep up lol. theres alotta lil stuff to learn as i go and i really want this motor to be as clean as possible and run like a top. so anymore lil hints or tips that you guys have i would love to hear them cuz they help a ton. thanks guys.

Ruh roh......I wouldn't mix cast pistons and forged pistons....plus the machining is different for a Wiseco. It expands more....

My opinion.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

wierd thats the first ive heard of it. the marina im going through uses this method for every rebuild they do for someone. they only use one machine shop and they only put in weisco's. i havet looked yet but im not sure if they make a standard piston thats 20 over or not.

thats a first for me too they make casts to 40 over wow!wiscos have way more clearance needed interesting to say the least let us know how that works out for you.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

lol well now you guys got me a lil nervous. so they do make a standard piston thats oversized? the only bad thing is that if they do my block was bored 20 over but to match a weisco. so i dunno if its gonna make that much difference going from a weisco 20 over bore to a standard piston 20 over bore.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

i have to agree with daselbee i would not mix forged ( wiscos ) with stock pistons (cast) in fact unless your turning over 7000 rpms i wouldnt use wiscos at all just my .02 worth
