you know i was just thinking about where on earth i could find a new dash for my ranger. and then i thought you know everyones putting vinyl on their windshields... why couldnt i have someone print up like carbon fiber pattern and take my gauges out and just over lay that... i dunno how the finished product would look but just an idea.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

well i should have the powerhead put back on the boat this weekend or monday at the latest. then off to the shop it goes for the final tuning and timing. good thing i havea few days to burn because we sanded and primed the trailer and painted it a new glossy black and put new marker lights all around and led's in the back. so it should look nice. the only thing i have left to do is jack the boat up to paint the bottem. the gray paint on the bottem looks kinda crappy all scuffed up over the years so i figured i might as well make that look as nice as everything else has turned out.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

wow, so i havent posted on here in forever! well an update is much over due at this point. so far the powerhead is all back on the boat and together and purring like a kitten!!! as for the rest of the boat, it too has seen much needed tlc. i guess i never realized what is capable in just a few months times. the old carpet is out and all new carpet has been installed, along with new seats and trolling motor. the trailer was sanded down and given a fresh paint job with all new lights all around, new tires and new carpet for the trailer all around as well. and if anyone else has ever ran into the issue of nasty looking chrome wheels on their trailer, just try this. a simple can of aircraft paint remover. it worked wonders! the old clear coat just bubbles right off revieling this masterpiece of chrome behind it. saved me about 200 bucks a wheel. ill try and post pics for some reason i have a hell of a time by the time i resize the pic it doesnt want to load. but for sure this ranger just went from a clean looking older ranger to one hell of a classic, sharp and respectible boat.

Re: evinrude 150 spitfire rebuild

well needless to say its been far too long sence ive posted on my rebuild of my evinrude. So lets catch up shall we.....
after getting the powerhead back on the boat and reconnecting everything a few problems popped up. first i had to find a new flywheel, and they listed for about a grand on most sites. luckely i found one in traverse city for 40 bucks and it was perfect. so that seemed to be the only hang up, or so i thought. turned out i cracked a fuel rail during the breakdown on the motor. so i had to order one of those as well. meanwhile i had the main motor cover and sides painted at a local shop and i sprayed the mid and lower unit myself and boy did it turn out amazing. the carpet on the boat is complete with new locks on the deck lids and aswell as a total trailer make over with new primer and paint. bunk carpet and new lights and fenders with new lettering to match.

so now for the long list of parts i replaced:
6 new pistons from brp 3 .020 over and 3 standard
all new roller bearings on big and little end of rods
new rods
new gaskets throughout
new flywheel
new stator
new carb rebuild kits
new fuel rails
new fuel line for entire boat and motor
new water line for the entire motor
new filters through out
new powerpacks
new plugs and wires
new lower unit seal kit
new impeller
new carpet in the boat
new seats
new livewell and bilge pump with new tubing throughout
new 70lb motorguide pro tour 24v trolling motor
new carpet throughout on trailer
rhino lined the fenders
new vinyl lettering on trailer

and believe it or no it was all done by my self and occasionally my a few helpfull people... and for the best part
the local shop wanted 5800 bucks to rebuild just the motor. and i was able to just take my time and have fun and drink a few beers and smoke a few stogeys and accomplish the tasks at hand for the low cost of roughly 2600. which in my mind is amazing. ill post some pictures of the before and after as well as alot of steps in the rebuild of the powerhead it self. thanks again for everyones help that posted.
