Using the gas in a squirt bottle is giving some new activity to this betty. squirting gas in the cylinders and in the carb makes the motor sound like it wants to run. It still will not fully run, but it is acting better. I will keep tweaking with it and post updates.

Do that fuel pump. Did you make sure the inlet needle isn't getting stuck?

Take the carb off (or just the bowl if you can get it off without removing the carb) and move the float up and down, you will feel the needle getting hung up in the seat if it is getting stuck or the float is catching on something.

Re: Evinrude 1963 Bigtwin 40hp NO START

I have ordered another carb kit for this bad boy.

The Sierra kit that I got 2 weeks ago was incomplete. I ordered the 7010, but the high speed jet gasket that came with it looked to be for a smaller carb. It would not fit over the jet. So I returned that one and ordered an OEM kit with float. Hopefully it will be more successfull than the sierra.

I am really not liking the rubber tipped needles. I first of all don't know how to install the hinge spring, so I assume the rubber tipped needle will stick quite easily. Does anyone have a close up picture of how this gets installed?
