Re: Evinrude 200HP Ficht 1999 Error 34
I have the same problem with my 1999 envinrude 200 ficht.ECU has been rebuilt 3 times (they don't have new one any more) is any one know how to fix it ? my tech. told my to replace the new motor, wich cost around 17K plus shipping and labor.I can't affor that solution.
Please save yourself a lot of time, as it took me six weeks to solve this: go to

Tell them Nick from Florida sent you, as they fixed this for me.(Ficht 225 2001)
The problem is the ECU.
You have done all the proper technical evaluation, continuity of the Oil injector circuit an its impedance, Injector pump firing properly(use the emm software to do this), PDU continuity and corrosion check, etc. PLEASE check the GROUND on the ECU as the service shop did a very poor job on this some time ago. Make sure the ground black wires on the ring terminal are directly connected to the engine block and there is no corrosion. The ECU depends on grounding of circuits to control injector firings .
What is happening is the ECU fires the Oil Injector by connecting the circuit to Ground via a transistor circuit. There is a problem with the ECU where the current spikes when the transistor completes the circuit to fire the Oil Injector and this is what causes the fuse to blow in the PDU.
Also as I use to be in New England (cool weather), i do get a overheat of the ECU on occasion here in FLA, please check that your ECU is getting water via the fuel pump water cooling hose that feeds the ECU.... I think mine never worked and I only have this problem not that I am in FLORIDA... anyone have advice on this, please check/ disconnect the water hose that goes to the port side of the ECU and see if water is pumping through the ECU... It is just a straight metal tube that goes through the ECU. THis is my THIRD ECU on the engine and the other two have failed over the years...Check your temp sensor on the engine block port side as this comes loose over time and you will notice corrosion on your bottom port spark plug. I change the fuel filters/water separator EVERY year, I get about 200 hours on spark plugs, Decarb the engine yearly, USE ONLY the Evinrude oil HD 50... When the engine works, it is GREAT, compression is fine after 10 years 120-130 psi. Make sure you check the torques on the power head....We fish offshore and the engine HAS to work and be reliable...so I hope this helps in addition to your problem.
I am a third generation Evinrude buyer and I really do not want to buy a foreign engine next.... HELP EVINRUDE, can you hear us!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please let me know how you fair, and anyone else with this engine, the only we can keep them running is to help each other out. so I hope this information is of value.
