Re: Evinrude, Do they still have problems
flyrod, by all means buy the Ficht if that's what you want. My opinions only reflect my experiences. I realize Bombi has made many improvements over the older problematic Ficht's. However, I personally don't feel comfortable with a technology that is under fast-paced development to address inherent problems, no matter how well those problems are addressed. I don't believe lean burn/lean oil 2-strokes have proven themselves as something to depend my life upon...yet.

I wasn't giving my suggestions based on noise, or Maytag reliability. Only my own experience with proven performance. Only time cures wounds....and I have a big one with the Ficht.

"If four strokes didn't break down, four stroke dealers would be out of business"

Actually it was the problematic Ficht, and its continued breakdowns that sunk OMC and its dealers. 4-stroke dealers (and 2-stroke dealers) stay in business because they
sell outboards, not repair them. A dealership is usually lost by not selling the product...or not having buyers for that product. We know they all break down...but some more than others.

$99 Sea Tow? Are you serious? We have 30-foot tides here that run 10-15 knots. I need reliable power, thank you.
