Re: Evinrude Fastwin broken parts Qs
Hey Waco,
I'm sure you probably know this but just in case----- when you pull the starter rope, pull gently until you feel those pawls engage the flywheel, then give'er a good stout pull. Usually that's how they get broken...someone just jerks the heck out of it as soon as they grab the pull cord handle. Sometimes they're just old and brittle. I wouldn't worry about it happening again, though, as long as you wait till it engages the flywheel before you jerk it. If you follow the guys' advice above and replace the coils, impeller, carb kit, and possibly lower unit seals, that motor will be very easy to start and you probably won't even want an electric starter. The above parts amount to about 100 bucks and are well worth it.
Good luck, you have an EXCELLENT motor!
BTW--I love this forum, too. Learned a lot and still learning every time I get on.
Here's a pic of the pawls, but darn it, replace some of those other parts mentioned above, if you ask we'll even get you the part #'s so you can order 'em online and have 'em show up at your doorstep so you don't have to deal with those finicky dealerships.

Hope this helps...
