Extreme DT2 Overheat & Salt caked in water jacket

I recently tore apart my DT2 for a rebuild after an extreme overheating (melted a hole in my internal gas tank:%) & found salt caked in the water jacket preventing proper cooling...thus the overheating.

Anyway, I've been using any sharp object around to pick away at it...but is there a better way for salt removal to prevent damage to the aluminum by crude tools?

Also, how long is long enough to flush in fresh water to prevent salt caking? I am the third owner of the motor & would love to believe that I've thoroughly flushed... but without a tell-tale pisser on the DT2, it's really hard to monitor water circulation & flushing.

Any suggestions?

As well as pulling the head and cleaning everything in there you need to pull the power head off the lower unit as it gets clogged under there ever more. These little motors have little water channels for sure, been there done that a bunch of times.

Is there a product that will dissolve the crystallized salt out there....or do I just continue to pick and scrape?
