I purchased a boat that has an evinrude 9.9 outboard.
I put fresh gas in it today with the right oil to fuel mixture. When I started it in a bucket, it instantly reved up real high.
I played around with some throtle adjustments and idle speed but nothing changed at all.
So i'm asking if anyone knows what and where the problem might be?

See if it has a big knob on the side behind the tiller handle...its for kicking up the idle speed for trolling

Are you saying that when you twist the twist grip, the RPMs do not change at all?

Have you looked under the cover to see if the throttle plate in the carb is opening and closing when you twist the twist grip?

Also, check the link-n-synch to make sure the line on the cam follower lines up with the cam follower roller just as the throttle plate starts to move.

Also, make sure the needle valve (Lean-Rich knob) is set properly. If you do a search for carb adjust by J. Reeves you can find instructions, or go here:

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000034

for an awesome resource on 9.9/15 motors.

Lastly, I wouldn't rule out a dirty carb or clogged idle jet, which could adversely affect your air/fuel mixture.

If you check all these things and report back I'm sure someone can help you out.

Happy Boating!
Kev

the twist grip is extremely hard to twist.
the idle speed knob didn't do anything.
I am going to check the carb tomorrow.
