Hey EZLoader, check out:

http://www.google.com/search?as_q=tie+rod&num=10&hl=en&rls=WZPA%2CWZPA%3A2005-24%2CWZPA%3Aen&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=an y&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.escape-central.com&as_rights=&safe=off

Looks like there are a lot of reasons for the steering on an Escape to squeak, and no particular fix, but tie rods seem to be popular.

The sounds in mine started only when it was really hot out, but now that it's 20something out, it does it ALL the time. It sounds like rubber or rubber rubbing or like worn out wiper blades.

If I were you, I'd report a problem even if you don't have it so that if you have a problem after the warranty, it'll be documented and you'll have a better chance of them fixing it.

Wow JS, great link, thanks... I think that first one builds your case against Ford that they have a known problem with the tie rods (at least on the earlier Escape models). I'm going to call my Ford Dealer and ask for him to go over all the Service Bulletins for my 2004 AWD Escape.

Here is a great link for you to search for your Service Bulletins on your Escape. Print it out and then take it to the dealer along with all the other information you can dig up on this "known problem".

http://www.alldata.com/TSB/0320_mo.html
