Re: FICHT Plug fouling

Lots depends on your year and hp.

Post them, and you'll get help here.Several ideas come to mind ..... correct plug ? ..... is it indexed properly ?....
what updates have been done ?

$1000 is a lot to have something not fixed.

Re: FICHT Plug fouling

My motor is a 2003 FICHT 175. I replaced the plugs and indexed them within 45 degrees. My dealer says the plugs are fine but have heavy carbon, WELL ??? I am not sure what you mean by updates but no mods have been made to this engine.
Thanks DHP

Re: FICHT Plug fouling

The 2003 model year does not require "updates" as did the very early motors.
I troll for 8-12 hours at a clip and have never had a fouled plug issue.

Do you run ring free / carbonguard?
What kind or oil are you running?
have the thermostats been check to assure that the motor is coming up to temp?
What exactly did the dealer do so far?

Re: FICHT Plug fouling

Make sure your using the right oil. I think you have to use the XD-50 as a minimum requirement on the FICHT, or any equivalent synthetic blend.

Re: FICHT Plug fouling

I have been trying to use the best oil possible. I have been getting it from a dealer that gets oil by the bulk and sells it in gallon jugs so I don't know exactly what kind of oil it is. I only know they said it would be alright to use in my motor. Maybe this is the problem? A friend told me there was a warm up sensor on this motor that might malfuntion and cause to run rich after engine has got to operating temp?
Thanks for your responce

Re: FICHT Plug fouling

I have over 1,200 hrs. on my Ficht Ram 150 hp. 2001 MY.
With one re-gap at around 90 to 100hrs. I can go for another 100hrs. of use.

Things to check: Lower thermostat housing for blockage.
(this motor has 2 on top and only 1 lower on bottom)

Oil return check valves and nipples at base of each bank of cyl.at bottom of block. Yes,brass nipples have a check valve built in and are pressed into block.
(If oil does not return to top of motor it can cause fouling)

Fuel from vapor canister leaking into intake
(causes poor running at low speeds /rich mixture

Have you hooked up the diagnostic software and checked timing?

Hope this helps.:D
