Ok I understand the CORRECT way to do this [replace top bearing and race] is to take the top end apart. But as a person that has been outa work over a year and cant afford to pay attention. I am lookn' to cut corners. Looking at the pics I cant understand why the whole thing has to come apart. Why cant a person use a bearing puller to yank the bearing while leaving the shaft installed, and tap on a new one, and a little slide hammer to yank the race. Can someone plz 'splain why that wouldnt work ? What am I missing ?
Thx
As I said in earlier post ... the gear oil is mint and the drain plug magnet sterile of metal.
I would use Merc bearings and replace/ reuse the shims under the race
