Well made a small amount of progress. The jet pump from a '98 Yamaha gp1200 as far as i tell it is supposed to take 135hp at somewhere around 6500rpm. Now all i need to do is figure out how to put it in the the boat and hook some type of power to it.

Does anyone know how jet skis get the cooling water for the eng.

Cool project. Those sidewinders were available with a jet. You should check the jet forums over at performanceboats.com and screamandfly.com Tom at Jet Boat Performance will be a great resource for you. He has done several jet conversions. You can find him at performanceboat.com. I'm betting that ski jet pump and 135 HP motor won't push that heavy hull over 30 MPH. You are probably going to want a berkely pump and domestic V8.

I say it's a sidewinder. Did you ever get the HIN off that boat. That hull was splashed and produced by a couple of other manufacturers. I know SleekCraft had one that was very similar called a Monterey. I believe there were a couple of other that cloned it as well.

This thread has quite a few pics of a clone from Cheetah. It is a jet.

I have done a small amount of research and found that some of the over sized jet skis do quite well with around 200hp.

As of now i am still looking for a power plant any thoughts on a 200+hp 4stroke.

I would go out board or true jet. If you dont I think it will be a slouch. I have never seen this conversion done so What do I know. Ill be watching this one.

I haven't either the idea came about when i took a ride in a bay-liner jazz that i did some work on it was a blast to drive. I just cant find a factory built mini jet boat that i like the looks of.

You may be correct about the poor performance. This from the outset is an experiment that may not turn out worth a darn but how will we know if we don't try.

The bay-liner i played with may have run only 30mph but it was still fun.

I'm certainly no jet expert. Those guys in the jet boat forums are pretty crafty. I have seen all kinds of setups come through those boards. I would not be surprised if someone has tried that pump in a larger boat. There is a guy named Trond that has done some crazy jet stuff. I believe he used those ski pumps. I linked one of his posts below. You can find his other projects from there. There is not many jet guys here. I'll certainly be watching to see what direction you go and what the results are.

i know you are talking jet here.......but if by chance the 200 does find its way on to the back of that missile......i would seriously add another layer of 1708 to the inner hull.

some of those boats had great hull thickness .....while some didnt.....if the hull flexes when you walk on it (as it sits now) ....add another layer of glass.

one thing i will say.......if you pull up to the ramp with a 200 sticking off the back end......the boys with the 455 olds flat bottoms with headers sticking out the top.......will run away in shame.

LOL. Not all of them will.

EDIT: I think I may have interpreted oops post. Seems he may have been implying the jet guys don't like the OB guys and not that that 200 would outrun the Olds flatties. Our group is not that way at all. We welcome anyone that want's to come out and hang. Either way my response is still valid. LOL.

I have no desire to get anywhere near 50mph in this thing let alone 80.
This fellas 350+hp gets him to 80mph so 200hp should get me to 40 with no problems.

Yes it does flex.

I am pretty well set on the jet idea for now all ready bought the pump. But we will see how it goes.

20 years ago My olds didnt run from jack. That blue bottle sure made it ten foot tall and bullet proof. That AA impeller might have helped some

Didn't mean to hijack your thread 86. I think Trond's build probably has some good info for you onthat ski pump though. Here is a very long build thread on that 11' boat.

He is building a 20 footer now. Not much progress but he did choose a pump for it. This boat is closer to the size and weight of your hull. He choose a more traditional boat jet pump for this build. Not a jet ski style pump.

I am a bit more optimistic about performance now may not turn out to be a slug after all.

Mohican Do run a ride plate or trim tabs on your jets.

I do not. Most do though. The cruiser is too big to evey be very fast to begin with. The Rebel could probably benefit from one but there are other things it need more. The Rebel does right at 60 MPH now. At that point the YJ pump cavitaties. Since I can already reach the limit of the pump, a ride plate will not help. The winter projects include a pump upgrade, loader and over transom headers. The ride plate will come after that if I think I need it. My boats are really not hot rods. They are more just reliable old lake boats.

ok...ill elaborate more here........first off

that boat was designed for pulling a water skier about 20 mph......at 15 feet.....its max motor size was more than likely an 85 hp......(rating is legnth x beam)

a jet will make it fly......you might see 60 easy depending on what motor/pump you put on.

a 200 hse is just stoopid crazy (but i like it)....a chopper prop....and a good 200 hp you might see 100 mph.

that is why i said reinforce the hull.....most of the boats were built for skiing.....in the 70's i saw one with a 100 hp.....the boat was right out of the water on a flat lake....just the drive was in the water......we all watched as he flew by, and we could see sunlight under the hull....dont know what speed he was doing.....but it was faaast.

in the 80's i was demo-ing boats for a local company in the N.W.T. a local mechanic had one with a beefed up hull that was made for racing.(the hull was over one inch thick)...he had a 135 on it. that boat was so fast we were racing cars on the highway next to the lake.....and winning hands down.
he took the wheel at 50 mph and cranked it.......that boat spun on a dime.....the force was so great i headr the seats ripping from the glass.

you have a serious go fast boat there......if you want to go fast with it....you will need to reinforce the hull. if you drop the big motor on it....the transom will need to be beefed up as well.

im not a jet guy...so i cant say what forces are on the boat as much as an ob or i/o....but i do know....that is one cool boat and what ever you put in it .....you will easily see 50
