Garboard Drain Plug for Aluminum Boat?

i recently purchased a 1990 aluminum crestliner which has a nylon garboard drain plug. ive never used a plastic drain plug. always had brass. is there any options for metal garboard plugs? im sure id have corrosion issues with SS or brass but what about bronze? any options? has anyone ever seen an aluminum garboard plug? thanks alot, mark

aluminum is too soft and bends on you over time, last time I looked walmart still sold the brass ones that clamp tight.

I take it this is a threaded drain? If so there is nothing wrong with a plastic plug. It will not rust, corrode, or fall out. Buy a couple at any home improvement store. They are cheap.

Threaded plug? They do make stainless steel plugs,this I know because I found one in a bucket of fittings at work one day. Stainless and aluminum are very compatible, especialy in fresh water

ive been using the same plastic plug in mine for the 3 seasons i have run it, no leaks no issues. but i do keep a couple spares around

I've got a 1986 Crestliner Nordic 18. It has the nylon (plastic) drain and plug. I would keep a spare good plug. You may need to buy the garboard drain complete to get a plug, maybe not. I keep mine lubed with Vaseline to make sure that it goes in/out with no problems. The o-ring could be better, but with lube, it's OK. I've been running mine since new and no real problems. I looked into a bronze/brass unit and the hole pattern is different, so I blew it off.

the plastic plug is availible right here on iboats, these fit my plastic drain in my crestliner.
