President Bush is unabashedly blocking all attempts to get Harriet Miers and Alberto Gonzalez to testify under oath (among others). He will only consent to closed hearings and no oath. Why? What does he have to hide? What other possible motive could there be? I can see testifying in private rather than in public due to the ever-convenient national security excuse (regarding Judicial appointments?). But no oath? For a sitting Attorney General and a former Supreme Court nominee, no oath? That's like telegraphing the world they they intend to lie and don't want to be punished for it. Simple as that. Frankly I wouldn't expect a word of truth from Carl von Rovenstein one way or the other, oath or not.

I think you overestimate our president. He is simple minded enough to honestly believe that his chosen ones are as honest as he is.He still believes in scouts honor.
All he does is defending his friends in the face of this onslaught.
Besides,he cannot afford to loose any more friends.

It does not sound that way to me xtraham, did you read wbw's statement? The dems openly want them removed(based on xtras post) and the other side of the fence wants them removed when convenient? Again, no hypocrisy there.

Hey, check it out, a CJY sighting . . . 8)

Regarding Bush, is he dim? Shrewd? Dishonest? Devout? Fascist? Theocratic? Can't have him defined many more ways without at least starting to see the contradictions guys.

Love all of you, keep up the good work. I know, maybe he is truly evil like profit driven, law abiding, insurance companies

Seriously, can he really be all of those things simultaneously? I know he is pretty spectacular, but that is an impressive list of traits there baby . . .

That's the beauty of Moral Relativism! ;)

He can be whatever they want him to be at the moment they need him to be it. 8)

Wonder what would have happened if we still had a republican house. I do believe this is one of the very reasons America said, enough is enough. It is never good to have a government that sits entirely on one side of the fence.

That would be more than the current administration is doing.

Our brother? How ignorant....we want him dead and you want him to remain on the French Riviera sipping margaritas. And you call yourself a supporter of America and its military.

You guys ever hear of attorney-client relationship?

No attorney/counselor may be required to divulge private conversation with a client or other members of a client's advisory team.

This is a lynch mob on a prospecting expedition. The President or his AG may fire a JD employee for any reason or for no reason.

You mean like the 40 years the Democrats had the house and senate from teh early 60's until the Republicans finally got it in the mid 90's? The boom times of rampant inflation and 14% interest on a mortgage and credit cards jumping to 21%? Like the fact we swung 180 degrees as the worlds largest creditor nation in the 60's to the worlds largest debtor nation by the 80's?

Yep, America had had enough. The Dems get 40 years to muck it up and the republicans get 12 to fix it and when they can't fix what the dems destroyed, vote them out and put the same guys back that messed it up. God business model that...

Re: Getting Feisty

Hey you might as well subpoena Bill C as well. He fired them all.. Certainly not all were incompetent.. Could it be they were not politically aligned? That seems to be a more egregious problem. but wait, the other presidents have also done these things.

Looking at the history one might conclude that these employees serve at the pleasure of the President.. Imagine that.

The oath constitutes a trial or hearing like setting. The president is allowing them to provide information (which should be expected) but is not willing to let this get to be a witch hunt. Which is what they are trying to do. they can't impeach him.. so what esle can they do to manufacture scandal and "prove" that this is a corrupt administration (puke).

How about investigating the leaks in the CIA? Wait they're against Bush.. I forgot.

This is truly a political witch hunt.

Hmmmmm. Seems to me that Ex-President Bill Clinton fired (via Hillary) 93+ lawyers and nobody said a word.

What gives?

Poilitics is a game played by the rich and powerful at our expense.

Since we don't care, we get what we got.
